Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The mission of the Department of Language and Literature at North Carolina Central University is to engage students in languages, cultures, literatures, linguistics, and writing. We foster students' analytical and creative thinking, problem-solving abilities, and communication strategies to prepare students for their responsibilities in civic and professional life. The Department of Language and Literature is responsible for teaching GEC courses in English, Foreign Languages, Humanities, and Philosophy. The department also houses degree programs in English, Foreign Languages, and Interdisciplinary Studies.
Primary Purpose of Position
Teach General Education Courses in Arts & Humanities.
Hold 4-8 office hours per week.
Participate in Humanities Faculty Development Sessions
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The position requires an emphasis on classroom management, the ability to teach classes of approximately 45 students, and participate in department meetings. Computer knowledge and willingness to participate in faculty development is essential. Use of technological platforms such as Canvas is required. Must be willing to communicate with students and it is necessary and expected.
Minimum Education/Experience
The applicant must hold a M.A. degree minimum.18 hours in English, African-American Studies, or a related Humanities discipline.
