Position Description

The Area of ISQS in the Rawls College of Business at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month Assistant Professor of Practice (all ranks) in AI and Data Science position to begin in Fall 2026. This is a renewable position, with a promising career path of continuing appointment and promotion to Associate or Full Professor of Practice. This position has a standard 3-3 course workload. Compensation is highly competitive, dependent upon the candidate's qualifications and experience. In addition, summer support is available to facilitate faculty members' teaching or research.

About the College

The Jerry S. Rawls College of Business is AACSB accredited and houses the School of Accounting that holds separate AACSB accreditation. The college offers the BBA degree with majors in accounting, energy commerce, finance, information technology, management, marketing, and supply chain management. Several formats of the MBA program are offered in full-time, weekend, and online modalities in Lubbock, the Dallas/Fort Worth area, Houston, and San Antonio. The College offers MS degrees in data science, information systems, accounting, finance, and marketing research and analytics. A Ph.D. in business administration is offered with tracks in accounting, finance, management, management information systems, and marketing. With a faculty of over 140 and a staff that exceeds 80, the college enrolls over 5,000 undergraduate and 800 graduate students.

About the Department/School/Area

The Area of Information Systems and Quantitative Sciences (ISQS) in the Rawls College of Business has been at the forefront of research in information systems for decades and was recently ranked as the 32nd in North America and the 40th worldwide based on research contributions in the most recent 2021-2024 timeframe based on the top two Information Systems (IS) journals of the UTD24 list (MIS Quarterly and Information Systems Research). We offer an IT undergraduate degree, a Master of Science in Data Science (MS-DS), a Master of Science in Information Systems (MS-IS), and a Ph.D. in Business Administration with specialization in Management Information Systems. Our MS-DS program was ranked the No. 3 best online non-MBA program in the nation in 2022.

Major/Essential Functions

At Texas Tech University, the Professor of Practice title is used to recruit individuals with exceptional backgrounds and achievements in academic, business, government, or other professional practice. Primary responsibilities normally will be to teach in an area of expertise, mentor students in professional and career preparation, and liaise with professional contacts and entities on behalf of the department or program.

In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a dynamic student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with a breadth of student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.

As a faculty member in the Area of ISQS, you will be expected to: 1) contribute to the teaching mission of the Area at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, as per the needs of the Area; 2) engage with substantial professional experience in the area in which they teach, or, conduct scholarly research in referred academic journals in areas aligned with the Area; 3) provide service to the Area, college, and university that is comparable with their rank.

Faculty Qualifications


  • We welcome applicants holding a Ph.D. degree from a broad collection of related disciplines, including Information Systems, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics, Industrial Engineering, Psychology, etc., obtained by the first day of employment;
  • Evidence of teaching or applying statistics, optimization, and simulation methods to solve business problems (teaching while being a graduate student as instructors or teaching assistants will count toward this requirement);
  • A demonstrated track record of publishing peer-reviewed research in refereed academic journals or scholarly books, or a demonstrated record of substantial professional engagement in the practice of business, management, and related issues.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:

  • Evidence of experience in teaching statistics, optimization, and/or simulation tools to support decision-making in business settings;
  • Experience of substantial industrial experience in artificial intelligence, data science, or related areas;
  • An established record of teaching, or practical engagement with, telecommunication systems, enterprise architecture, system integration, or related areas.
