About the College of Health and Human Sciences

The Department of Human Services and Counseling is housed within the College of Health and Human Sciences (CHHS). Position Summary

The Department of Human Services and Counseling at MSU Denver is seeking an Internship Coordinator. The Internship Coordinator provides leadership and support for the undergraduate and graduate internship programs in the Department of Human Services and Counseling. This position is responsible for coordinating all aspects of student internship placements, including developing and maintaining community partnerships, conducting site visits, and ensuring alignment with accreditation standards. The Internship Coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for students regarding internship requirements, policies, and processes, and provides graduate-level academic advising on program requirements and course sequencing in coordination with faculty advisors. Additional responsibilities include supporting site supervisors, maintaining internship manuals and related documentation, managing records and tracking systems, and assisting faculty with data collection to support accreditation and program assessment.

Advising & Student Support - 40%

  • Serve as the primary resource for students regarding the internship process, including exploration, application, placement, and completion requirements.
  • Provide graduate student advising related to program requirements and course sequencing, in coordination with faculty advisors who focus on career development, licensure preparation, and professional guidance.
  • Collaborate with the College of Health and Human Sciences Advising Office to support undergraduate students as needed; this role does not serve as a primary undergraduate advisor.
  • Share information with students on credentialing pathways and regulatory requirements through the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) and the Behavioral Health Administration (BHA).
  • Support the implementation of systems and technologies that enhance internship tracking, student communication, and program efficiency.

Community & Agency Partnerships - 30%

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with community agencies that provide student internship opportunities.
  • Conduct periodic site visits at approved internship sites to ensure alignment with accreditation standards (CSHSE, CACREP, NASAC).
  • Create, maintain, and update resources for students, site supervisors, and internship sites.
  • Provide support, communication, and technical assistance to internship supervisors.
  • Orient students to internship expectations, requirements, and site processes.
  • Address challenges or conflicts that arise in field placements and support timely resolution.
  • Expand and diversify internship opportunities as the program grows, including in underserved and geographically diverse areas.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Department and University offices, as well as other clinical internship educators across campus.

Faculty & Department Support - 30%

  • Coordinate with the Clinical Director and internship faculty to support effective communication and consistency in field experiences.
  • Organize internship orientations each semester and maintain updated manuals, websites, forms, and program policies.
  • Collect and manage internship-related data for use in accreditation reports, program evaluation, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Ensure documentation and records related to internship placements are accurate, current, and accessible to faculty and program leadership
  • Perform additional faculty and departmental support tasks as assigned to ensure smooth operations and alignment with program goals.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Computer and technological proficiency with the ability to learn new systems, software, and tools
  • Ability to communicate with a wide variety of constituents effectively and with a high degree of professionalism
  • Evidence of strong time management and organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to apply independent judgment with limited supervision and instruction
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively within a team environment as well as independently
  • Demonstrated ability to address and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse urban population

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, Rehabilitation, Behavioral Health, Addiction Counseling, or a related field
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment

  • Experience working in a clinical setting
  • Experience in higher education settings
  • Proven experience coordinating internship programs for students
  • Background in advising or supervising students or professionals
  • Familiarity with accreditation standards, Behavioral Health Administration (BHA) regulations, and DORA requirements
  • Experience collaborating with clinical supervisors
  • Demonstrated ability to network and build partnerships with local agencies
  • Experience in conducting agency site visits

  • Schedule: This is an in person, on campus position in Denver, Colorado
  • Travel: Local travel up to 25% for site visits and professional development

Salary for Announcement

Under Colorado law, MSU Denver is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The anticipated hiring range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $65,000 - $74,900.

This position is paid monthly and is eligible for MSU Denver benefits.
