Department Summary

UNT Health Fort Worth, Gibson D. Lewis Library serves as the Regional Medical Library (RML) for the Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM) Region 3. As the RML, we coordinate outreach services and provide programming on behalf of the National Library of Medicine throughout Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas. This office is funded through a cooperative agreement from the National Library of Medicine, an institute of the National Institutes of Health.

Position Overview

Outreach and Education staff for NNLM Region 3 have shared duties including but not limited to: recruiting network members, giving presentations, reviewing grant proposals, liaising to grant recipients, contributing to RML projects, and representing Region 3 in a professional capacity to external and internal partners. The Data Science & Membership Strategist will specifically serve as the point person for 1) developing capacity in the region to conduct data science and/or deliver data services in support of data-driven research and health, 2) contributing to NNLM-wide data science initiatives, 3) assessing regional data science needs, and 4) forming partnerships throughout the region to increase the impact of regional and national data science programs. As a secondary outreach function, this role will coordinate Membership efforts and reporting.

The Data Science & Membership Strategist will work in a team-based setting, and ideal candidates will bring in a spirit of cooperation, exploration, and continuous process improvement to help achieve the mission and goals of NNLM and the RML. This person will work with the NNLM Data Science Center to execute strategy at the regional and national level.

This is a specified term position dependent on grant funding, with an expected end date of April 30, 2026. Applications will be accepted for this remote position. Employees will be expected to reside within or be willing to relocate to one of the seven states (AR, KS, LA, MO, NE, OK, TX) served by NNLM Region 3. Some travel is expected.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in library or information science and two (2) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience providing public services in both academic and community settings related to health or public health.
  • Demonstrated experience with tools and technologies for data management, analysis, and visualization, such as Qualtrics, Tableau, GIS, DMPTool, REDCap, etc.
  • Experience with conducting one-on-one consultations or providing instruction.
  • Knowledge of the academic and biomedical research process or Health Informatics.

Job Duties



  • Applies basic data science skills as relevant and/or needed to assist in the functional operations of the Regional Medical Library (i.e. membership, reporting, marketing, etc).
  • Raises awareness of, promotes, and assesses both NNLM and Region 3 programs, services, and funding activities, through a variety of methods (training videos, product guides, classes, etc).
  • Keep current on local, state, and regional issues and news as it relates to data science to inform the development and deployment of programming and training.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
  • Conduct outreach, build relationships, and provide training to Network members in Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas on concepts and programs related to data science, data visualization, and related topics in partnership with subject matter experts and the NNLM Data Science Center.
  • Provide secondary support for programming in subject areas such as data science, clinical health information, telehealth, or other related topics as applicable.
  • Consult and translates regional data science needs and opportunities into innovative outreach and education programs for promoting NLM tools such as MyNCBI and ClinicalTrials.gov.
  • Create Data Visualizations and dashboards for real time use by the team.
  • Collect, clean, input, export, and organize data from various sources - YouTube, LinkedIn, the NNLM CiviCRM platform, RedCap, Qualtrics, etc.
  • Participation in Membership and Data Services-related NNLM committees and other committees and interest groups as needed.
  • Management of NNLM Region 3 network membership progress, programs, and plans. Processes, monitors, and tracks organizational memberships in Region 3 via our client relationship management system.
  • Engages community organizations and potential collaborators regionally and nationally.
  • Provide NNLM R3 program administrative support.
  • Promotes NLM, NNLM, and NNLM Region 3 services, initiatives and programs throughout Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas.
  • Develops and offers education in locating and utilizing authoritative health information.
  • Serves as a reviewer of funding applications and assists in the development of funding mechanisms that may be offered to network members in NNLM Region 3.
  • Provides liaison services to sub-award recipient contracts as assigned.
