Job Title: COMBAT Research Professional

Job Summary:

The CU Anschutz Center for COMBAT Research (COMBAT) is seeking a highly motivated Principal Research Science Professional to work with the center's affiliated investigators, staff, and trainees. This position will provide expert consultation related to study design and statistical analysis, launch new human research protocols and projects, implement research projects focused on military readiness and retention for service members, and provide support to COMBAT strategic initiatives. The successful applicant will have a passion for research, enjoy and excel in the sharing of knowledge and life-long learning, and have a desire to work in a collaborative and driven pool of talented co-workers.

Key Responsibilities:

35% - Statistical Analysis and Data Management

  • Develop statistical analysis plans and sample size/power analyses for COMBAT affiliated investigator grant proposals

  • Independently conduct statistical analyses for COMBAT affiliate investigators and trainees

  • Generate data visualizations

  • Interpret findings and support development of dissemination materials

  • Develop and manage research databases and data entry interfaces

  • Perform data quality control and identify issues related to data collection and/or management

35% - Research Execution

  • Support COMBAT affiliated investigators in launching DOD funded research studies

    • Draft IRB protocols, amendments, continuing reviews

    • Develop standard operating procedures, data collection forms, other process documents

    • Assist with recruitment activities

  • Screen and enroll research participants, including obtaining informed consent

  • Independently perform study related processes, procedures, and assessments as defined in study protocol and in compliance with regulating bodies

  • Draft progress reports and final reports

  • Assist with identifying issues related to operational efficiency and communicate with lead investigator(s)/leadership

  • Employ, evaluate, and assist with the implementation of innovative solutions to optimize research study efficiency

30% - Support COMBAT Strategic Initiatives

  • Collaborate with COMBAT leadership, staff, and affiliated investigators

  • Analyze COMBAT operations data

  • Create visualizations of COMBAT operations data

  • Perform literature reviews

  • Support development of military impact statements and project transition plans

  • Other duties in support of future COMBAT initiatives

Work Location:

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in public health, statistics, social/behavioral sciences, physical sciences, nursing, healthcare, or a directly related field from an accredited institution

  • 3-5 years of professional experience

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

The position requires extensive, diverse and progressively responsible experience, including direct responsibility for planning, executing, and interpreting quantitative statistical analyses of clinical and community-based research studies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A master's degree in public health, statistics, social/behavioral sciences, physical sciences, or a directly related field from an accredited institution

  • Experience independently performing both quantitative and qualitative statistical analyses

  • Experience with U.S. Department of Defense research

  • Experience developing and managing research databases (e.g., REDCap, MySQL)

  • Experience working on multi-site clinical and community-based research studies

  • Regulatory experience (e.g., institutional review board)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution

  • Outstanding customer service skills

  • Expert knowledge of statistical analysis and interpretation

  • Ability to master complex research protocol information

  • Basic knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology

  • Experience working independently with indirect supervision

  • Excellent critical thinking skills and problem-solving initiative

  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks

  • Experience working with a diverse team of academic, healthcare, industry, and government professionals

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE $65,545 - $80,625

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
