The University of Wisconsin-Platteville is seeking applicants for a Student Learning and Engagement Specialist in the Student Access and Academic Support (SAAS) department. The Student Learning and Engagement Specialist is responsible for planning, developing, and delivering student-centered programming designed to support retention, academic success, and graduation. The individual will collaborate closely with campus partners and SAAS departments to provide learning opportunities on topics such as study strategies, financial literacy, and other skill-building initiatives that prepare students for success in college and beyond. The role also provides general oversight of the Student Success area, supervises student staff, manages program budgets, and contributes to campus-wide advising and engagement efforts. By assessing outcomes and aligning initiatives with institutional goals, the Specialist plays a key role in supporting student achievement.

This is a full-time, benefit and paid leave eligible position. Salary range for this position is $46,000 - $52,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Identify, design, plan and deliver dynamic programming for students to help them gain the necessary skills to be successful in academics and beyond. Examples include study skills, financial literacy, etc.

  • Identify and refer students to appropriate institutional resources and follow-up on referral.

  • Collaborate across campus, institutional and community populations to create working relationships and joint programming efforts with the goal of organizing student-focused programming and resources.

  • General oversight of the Student Success area on campus along with supervision of student staff.

  • Assist with student organizations with ties to the Student Access departments.

  • Work directly with staff within Student Access and Academic Success (SAAS) to determine the type and topics of programming that will be most beneficial to students. Offices within SAAS include Disability Access Center, Wright Center for Veterans and Non-Traditional Students, Multicultural Student Affairs, Doyle Center for Gender and Sexuality, the Student Success center, McNair program, Fostering Student Success, Career and Professional Development Office, and Student Advising and Academic Resources (STARS).

  • Assess programs and activities delivered by participating in the campus-wide advising community, providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs.

  • Create and maintain schedules, logistics, and resources for one or multiple student affairs programs, activities, and/or service.

  • Cultivate an environment of communication and collaboration among the various University stakeholders.

  • Manage the programming budget associated with the position and work.

  • Generate and analyze reports of curricular and unit outcomes.

  • Write, edit, and publish content for various communication projects and marketing platforms to align with strategic initiatives and established communication campaigns.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university.

  • A minimum of 3 years of professional full-time working experience with students in a higher education or similar setting.

  • Working knowledge of best practices that contribute to student, retention, and completion efforts affecting current college students.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide education, leadership, and personal development programming for students.

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, written, group facilitation and organizational skills along with the ability to exercise initiative.

  • Requires a professional who is detail-oriented, takes direction well, has the capacity to be a leader and role model, can work strongly independently and in a team setting.
