ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Senior Compliance Specialist reviews plan documentation of prospective retirement plan clients to ensure compliance with regulations, new business standards, new business issuance procedures, and ensure plan meets the requirements of departments, including trust operations. Oversee new business implementation process and support existing business by providing plan amendment and consulting services. Serve as a compliance and procedural resource for various departments, including sales, relationship management, marketing, plan administration, participant services and operations.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:



  • Lead new business calls to provide document review and consultative services relating to drafting of the plan document.
  • Provide plan amendment and consulting services.
  • Serve as a compliance resource for various departments, including sales, relationship management, marketing, plan administration, participant services and operations.
  • Perform detailed reviews, evaluate plan documents for compliance and qualification, and identify potential risks for Alerus.
  • Consult with internal legal counsel on document design and customized service agreement language as needed.
  • Consult with client on prototype document provisions and offer alternatives as needed.
  • Provide retirement plan expertise to staff by being available for questions and assistance with document interpretation, guidance on legislative interpretation.
  • Encourage and train team members to reference client specific adoption agreement, service agreements and fee schedules and to use industry publications to research solutions.
  • Assist with department training, recognize training needs, and coordinate training topics and trainers.


WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE:



  • 12+ years of experience in complex defined contribution plan administration such as non-qualified plans, cross testing allocations, and other unique plan designs.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations (IRS, DOL, ERISA, etc.) related to qualifying and non-qualifying plans of various types.
  • ASPPA designations or similar certifications.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written/oral communication, organization, and client service skills required.
  • Maintain professional working relationships with internal and external clients.
  • Work independently and set priorities.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is typically performed in an office setting. The employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office utilizing proper ergonomic safeguards when doing so. Additionally, the employee must occasionally lift or move supplies and materials up to 20 pounds.

BASE PAY RANGE:

$90,000 - 100,000 per year
