Job Description

Location Profile:

Carlton Forge Works produces seamless rolled rings as well as open and closed-die forgings for the aerospace, gas turbine, industrial, commercial, and nuclear industries while using one of the most extensive lines of equipment and truly skilled craftsmen anywhere.

Job Summary:

The Furnace Maintenance Technician will install, repair, and maintain refractory linings in industrial furnaces and other high-temperature equipment. This involves working with specialized refractory materials like bricks, castables, and mortars to protect structures from extreme heat and corrosion. Troubleshoot and repair furnace instruments and combustion systems to maintain operation of furnaces in a Quality environment in accordance with quality compliance procedures.

  • All functions, duties or tasks are to be carried out in an honest, ethical and professional manner, and to be performed in conformance with applicable Company policies and procedures.
  • In the event of uncertainty or lack of knowledge of Company policies and procedures, employees are required to request clarification or explanations from superiors or authorized company representatives.
  • Adhere to strict safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Provide maintenance and repair services for Hot Work production furnaces and Heat Treat furnaces.
  • Lay firebricks and refractory insulations to rebuild, reline, or patch high-temperature furnace
  • Remove damaged firebricks using pneumatic chipping gun or sledgehammer
  • Remove damaged or deteriorated refractory materials, clean surfaces, and install new linings or patches
  • Mix and apply refractory mortars, castables, and other materials, ensuring proper consistency and application.
  • Cut refractory bricks to size using hand tools or powered abrasive saws
  • Build refractory forms
  • Pack furnace insulations
  • Weld sacks or holes in furnace shell
  • Mix hi-temp refractories
  • Replace burner blocks
  • Utilizing hand tools like trowels, hammers, and chisels, as well as power tools such as pneumatic chipping guns, Bobcat, welding, cement mixers and saws
  • Work directly with the Quality Department representatives, supervision and management to immediately identify and correct issues affecting the compliant functioning of furnaces.
  • Ensure that installations meet required standards and specifications for heat resistance and durability.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints, specs, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools.
  • Ability to identify and address issues during installation or repair.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with various concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret multiple instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Experience & Education

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or five years related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Relevant certificate of completion from a technical school preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience in refractory installation or a related trade (e.g., bricklaying) preferred but not required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $19.25 to $28.75 US Dollar (USD) Hourly based on a variety of factors. For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company's Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 1X the Company's bonus multiple, based on the Company's performance in the applicable quarter . Employees will receive 80 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company's 401(k) plan.

This position requires use of information or access to production processes subject to national security controls under U.S. export control laws and regulations (including, but not limited to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR)). To be qualified to work in this facility, a successful applicant must be a U.S. Person, as defined in those regulations, and able to supply evidence of that qualification prior to starting work or be authorized to receive controlled information under a specific license or permission from the relevant government agency.
