JMT's Allentown, PA Construction Management Team is seeking qualified and experienced Transportation Construction Inspectors for highway, bridge, and other infrastructure projects within the PennDOT District 5-0 (Reading, PA/Berks County) region. The successful candidate will apply standard inspection procedures of construction activities on behalf of our clients (primarily PennDOT) for structural quality, general safety and conformance to plans, specifications and codes.

The successful candidate will apply standard inspection procedures to ongoing activities during and after construction for structural quality, general safety, conformance to plans, specifications and codes. This position is not eligible for employer-based sponsorship with the exception of the TN visa classification.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities



  • Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications and construction methods to ensure compliance to legal requirements and safety regulations
  • Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures, fixtures, grades and/or pavement to ensure compliance to plans and codes
  • Makes field notes and computations
  • Witness routine sampling and tests on concrete, soils and other materials
  • Gathers and maintains project records (using PennDOT ECMS and other systems)


Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities



  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Day or night shift work, as required

Required Skills

  • Ability to act in an Owner's Agent/Responsible in Charge Role
  • Computer proficiency
  • Current Client Requested Certifications, including:
  • NECEPT- Bituminous Field Technician
  • PennDOT Concrete Field Technician (ACI Concrete Field Technician is prerequisite)
  • Active driver's license and reliable motor vehicle

    • Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening




Preferred Skills



  • Client Requested certifications, including: NICET Level II or higher in Transportation/Highway Construction
  • NECEPT-Bituminous and Concrete Field Technician
  • ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician
  • CDS V-3 and/or ECMS Wave 5 Experience

Required Experience

  • NECEPT-Asphalt Technician
  • High school diploma or equivalent (may be substituted for experience)


Preferred Experience



  • NECEPT-Bituminous and Concrete Field Technician
  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering
  • NICET Level 2 or higher in Transportation Highway Construction
  • CDS V-3 and/or ECMS Wave 5 certification or experience

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
