Job Description

What is the opportunity?

The Sr. Manager, Operational and CUSO Risk Initiatives is responsible for developing, implementing, and sustaining the RBC Operational Risk Framework across RBC Global Asset Management-US (GAM-US), ensuring alignment with the Enterprise-wide Operational Risk Management (ORM) strategy to manage operational risk, articulate the operational risk profile and risk appetite, and enable improved decision-making that explicitly considers operational risk.

This position will also be responsible for the review and analysis of new and updated RBC Enterprise and Combined US Operations (CUSO) standards and policies, subsequently designing, implementing, and facilitating the execution of corresponding GAM-US programs in compliance with those standards and policies.

This role also guides ORM Framework within GAM-US by providing expertise, advice, and counsel to senior management, enhancing their ability to anticipate and manage operational risks effectively. Will oversee the adequacy and strength of the control environment throughout GAM-US, recommending management action to ensure the operational risk profile supports the achievement of business objectives.

These responsibilities will be accomplished with a collaborative mindset, promoting a strong culture of control awareness and risk mitigation, successfully executing change while remaining focused on business priorities.

What will you do?

  • Identify key operational risk exposures within GAM-US and perform operational risk assessments in a coordinated manner with other groups and in accordance with RBC's Enterprise Operational Risk Management Framework and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform control testing and monitoring to assess the effectiveness of risk management frameworks across GAM-US. Ensure business activities remain within the firm's risk appetite and regulatory obligations. Document, escalate, and track remediation of control deficiencies risk events.
  • Assist in the evaluation of internal loss events, external events, other operational issues, and in the completion of scenario analyses.
  • Coordinate of audits and remediation of any issues identified. Incumbents in this position are expected to operate with a high level of independence in forming conclusions and resolutions and to participate in a variety of projects and initiatives.
  • Review and analyze new and updated Enterprise and CUSO standards and policies; design, implement, and facilitate the execution of corresponding programs for GAM-US.
  • Lead and manage the projects and initiatives related to the changes under the new/updated standards and policies.
  • Monitor Enterprise and CUSO standard and policy pipeline for new/updated standards and policies impacting GAM-US; create process for intake, analysis, sizing, project management, and change management for new/updated standards and policies.
  • Develop new and enhance existing team processes and written procedures related to Enterprise and CUSO standard and policy requirements.
  • Champion a culture of risk awareness and accountability across RBC.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Progressive experience with at least 5 years in the financial services industry (preferably Asset or Wealth Management), with significant industry knowledge and demonstrated success in directing and leading projects and initiatives.
  • Experience in working with US regulations and/or regulators (SEC, FINRA, Federal Reserve).
  • Willingness to collaborate with various teams to identify and resolve issues, ensure that all business activities are adhering to rules and regulations and communicate internal policies and procedures to business leaders.
  • Skill and judgment to be able to manage multiple projects and initiatives at a time and deal effectively with and influence business partners, stakeholders, and senior management.
  • Proven skill in handling conflict, strategic thinking and decision making in a time-sensitive environment, meticulous attention to detail and strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Finance, Business, or related field.

The expected salary range for this position is $85,000-$125,000, depending on your experience, skills, and registration status, market conditions and business needs.
