The College of Business (
COB) has been
AACSB accredited for over 40 years. We offer
BSBA,
MBA, and
MSA degrees and our School of Hospitality Management offers both a BS in Hospitality Management and an MS in Sustainable Tourism and Hospitality. Additionally, the Miller School of Entrepreneurship offers a BS in Entrepreneurship. We are one of the largest Colleges of Business in the state with approximately 4,200 undergraduate and 900 graduate students. To date, the
COB has approximately 150 faculty members of the highest caliber, skilled in the scholarship of research, teaching, and application of knowledge. A strategic goal of the college is to create an environment where the faculty, staff, and students can thrive and be personally and professionally respected. |
Job Duties |
INTERNAL POSTING: Open only to applicants currently employed by East Carolina University.
The College of Business (
COB) is seeking a Senior Associate Dean (
SAD) to begin January 1, 2026. The Senior Associate Dean (
SAD) is an administrative staff officer of the
COB, reports directly to the Dean, and serves as the second-ranked leader of the college. The
SAD works collaboratively with the Dean and is responsible to the Dean for planning, implementing, evaluating, and assuring the quality of all academic programs and operations of the College. The individual is an integral part of the leadership team and acts for the Dean in the Dean's absence. The individual must have high integrity and ethical standards and be an articulate and energetic spokesperson, and advocate for the College. The Senior Associate Dean must have a continuing record of scholarly achievement and be capable of representing the College with internal and external stakeholders. This opportunity is a 12-month faculty appointment that includes a course reduction and an administrative stipend.
Strategic Planning and Responsibilities
Provide leadership and oversight of the College's strategic planning efforts:
- Facilitate the planning, monitoring, and reporting of the COB strategic plan
- Work in partnership with the Dean to champion COB's Performance Excellence Program
- Serve as a member of COB AACSB CIR Team.
- Lead collaborative efforts with other Associate Deans and Directors to facilitate strategic initiatives
- Represent COB on committees of significant importance to the COB
- Coordinator Workforce Success Council and the dissemination of the Annual COB Climate Survey and the Voice of the Students Survey.
- Regularly communicate strategic updates to COB faculty, staff, and relevant stakeholders.
- Coordinate college level votes and activities with the Faculty Advisory Committee.
Academic Responsibilities
Oversight of course scheduling
- Center for Student Success
- Supervise and work collaboratively with the Executive Director for Enrollment Management and Student Success
Budget
Supervise and collaborate with the Business Services Coordinator (Budget) to ensure proper:
- Compliance with state, contract, and foundation guidelines
- Proper execution of yearly budgeting process
- Communication of regular budget updates to COB Chairs & Directors and stakeholders
- Management of department budgets
- Coordinate with the Assistant Dean of the Thomas D. Arthur Graduate School in regards of graduate tuition differential funds.
Human Resources Management Supervise and collaborate with Business Services Coordinator (HR) to ensure proper:
- Submission of Criticalities
- Faculty & Staff search processes
- Management of faculty & staff position allocations
- Execution of the progress towards tenure and post-tenure review processes
- Onboarding of new faculty & staff
- Offboarding of faculty & staff
- Compliance with HR, AA, and other university and state policies and procedures
SACSCOC Credentialing- Faculty 180 Coordinator
- Faculty and staff personnel actions
- Staff Development
- Coordinate with Faculty Development Director
- Faculty Development related to HR, Strategy, and Budget
Technology, Information, and Operations Supervise and work collaboratively with Director of Technology, Information, and Operations
- Prioritization of technology, information, and operation initiatives
- Oversight of technology and operational budgets
- Oversight of Student Technology Center
- Coordination of problem-based learning classrooms
- Oversight of space acquisitions, modifications, and allocations
Other Responsibilities
- Act as the Dean in the Dean's absence
- Act on behalf of COB Administrators in their absence
- Assist with College-level searches as needed
- Other duties as assigned or elected

Minimum Education/Experience |
The Senior Associate Dean will be a tenured faculty member within one of the College's departments or schools, holding the rank of Professor or Associate Professor. Candidates must possess a terminal degree in a discipline represented within the College and demonstrate a continuing record of scholarly achievement. The individual should have a notable record of teaching, scholarship, and service commensurate with the rank of Associate or Full Professor. In addition, candidates must demonstrate proven leadership experience and the ability to work collaboratively and collegially with faculty, staff, administration, and other internal and external stakeholders. |
