Spectra Tech is immediately seeking a R&D Chemist for Memphis, TN.
Job Summary: This employee will focus on R&D activities for specific projects involving formulation and product development concurrently participation in a variety of other tasks including but not limited to assistance with regulatory databases, new and alternate raw material qualification, analytical testing, etc. Work should be performed through the application of a body of knowledge related to standard laboratory methods, practices, procedures, policies, regulations, and laboratory materials and equipment. Duties and Responsibilities: The job duties listed are typical examples of the work performed in this position. Some additional duties may be assigned to this position, as daily issues are frequently unexpected. R&D Responsibilities: * Assist with formulation and development of cosmetic and OTC products. * Work under the supervision of R&D/Regulatory Affairs Manager to coordinate and manage new and existing formulations. * Complete projects based on product briefs and development requests. * Communicate to direct supervisor any issue related to project feasibility. * Assists with management of US and EU/UK regulatory databases. * Work on new raw materials and alternate sourcing qualification process. * Correspond with raw material suppliers. * Interact with Manufacturing, Production, Purchasing, Sales/Marketing and QA/QC Department. * Uphold laboratory safety standards. * Perform other tasks as assigned. * Document and maintain stability test records and laboratory notebooks. * Perform chemical and physical analyses on a variety of samples, including finished product and stability samples. Tests include but are not limited to organoleptic evaluations, pH, viscosity, Brix, centrifuge, specific gravity, moisture, etc. * Maintains lab cleanliness, including end-of-day cleanup of work area. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of laboratory tests and analyses. Knowledge of laboratory terminology and equipment. Knowledge of cGMP/cGLP. Knowledge and use of PPE, adherence to safe laboratory practices. Ability to handle samples and laboratory equipment. Ability to make mathematical computations. Ability to keep records. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to work in a team environment. Ability to organize and carry out assigned program. Ability to adapt new technology and methods to enhance program effectiveness. Attention to detail particularly when reviewing documents and briefs. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Experience: Experience with formulation and product development preferred. Analytical methods and wet chemistry experience required. |
