JANITORIAL PORTER Under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities Management, the Janitorial Porter support and assistance to the Director of Facilities Management performing laborer, general maintenance and service work for Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network (DWIHN) facilities. The Janitorial Porter is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, organization, and an overall high standard of hygiene and presentation in assigned facilities. This role ensures a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for employees, tenants, customers, or visitors. The Janitorial Porter will perform routine cleaning and maintenance tasks, while also assisting with special projects and responding to facility-related needs as they arise. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors in common areas, hallways, lobbies, restrooms, and other designated spaces
- Empty trash and recycling receptacles and replace liners as necessary.
- Clean, sanitize, and restock restrooms with supplies (e.g., soap, paper towels, and toilet paper)
- Dust and wipe down furniture, fixtures, and high-touch surfaces (e.g., door handles, light switches, and counters)
- Windows and glass cleaning, ensuring smudge-free surfaces in entryways or high-visibility areas
- Respond to maintenance requests or concerns promptly and professionally
- Replenish supplies in common areas such as breakrooms, kitchens, or lounges as needed
- Perform light maintenance tasks (e.g., changing lightbulbs or unjamming office equipment in public spaces)
- Assist with setting up and breaking down furniture or equipment for meetings, events, or functions
- Clean up event areas post-use, ensuring they return to their original state
- Ensure compliance with safety and cleanliness standards at all times
- Report hazards, damages, or unusual situations to the Facilities Manager or appropriate personnel
- Follow proper procedures for handling and disposing of waste, including hazardous materials
- Provide courteous and professional assistance to tenants, employees, or visitors when approached
- Address concerns or complaints in a timely and friendly manner
- Work closely with other janitorial staff, maintenance teams, and property personnel to achieve shared goals
- Assist other team members with larger cleaning or maintenance tasks as needed
- Perform additional tasks or responsibilities related to janitorial services as directed by supervisors
- Perform exterior grounds clean up and maintence as needed
- Assist in light snow removal and deicing.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Previous janitorial, cleaning, or porter experience is preferred.
- Experience in commercial, residential, or retail environments is a plus.
- Skills:
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on maintaining high cleanliness standards.
- Basic knowledge of cleaning supplies, materials, and equipment, including their proper use and care.
- Time management and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Professional and friendly demeanor when interacting with staff, visitors, or clients.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
- Capable of lifting 25-50 lbs and performing frequent bending, stooping, climbing, and standing for extended durations.
- Comfortable working in varying conditions (indoor/outdoor, hot/cold environments, or handling potentially dusty/dirty tasks).
WORK CONDITION: The Janitorial Porter will work in various settings, including commercial buildings, office spaces or behavioral health clinics. The role may require occasional evening, weekend, or holiday work depending on the facility's operational needs.
