Essential Job Duties |
The
Temporary Turf Technician will be responsible for assisting with the maintenance and repair of over 60 irrigation systems, possessing a general knowledge of low voltage lighting systems, 2-wire systems, and the ability to diagnose issues with pumps, leaking pipes, and sprinkler heads. Proficiency in general irrigation controller programming and operation is essential, along with knowledge of common irrigation heads, drip systems, pipe and fittings, electric valves, standard and two-wire systems, and hydraulic principles. This position will also contribute to new irrigation installations, which may involve digging with hand tools and operating small equipment, working closely with the Turf Health Tech II.
This position requires the operation of commonly used equipment for turf and irrigation tasks including, but not limited to, aerators, tractors, topdressers, skids, fork lifts, trenchers, ride-on/stand-on sprayers and spreaders, blowers, wide area mowers, slope mowers, leaf vacuums, tillers, dump trucks, excavators, tamps, boring equipment, and hand tools. This role will also assist with the leaf collection crew, support turf and horticulture crews with special projects.

- Knowledge and skill in the safe application of various chemicals and nutrient supplements and the operation of associated equipment.
- Ability to identify grass and plant diseases to determine appropriate treatment courses and understanding how to cover areas to specified depths with pesticides, considering weather conditions, droplet sizes, and obstructions, are key responsibilities.
- General knowledge of common turf pests, including diseases, insects, and weeds.
- General sprayer skills and spreader calibration as well as experience with products commonly used in a landscape setting, performing minor repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment, and ensuring operating efficiency.
