Summary:

The Recreational Therapist will be responsible for implementing therapeutic recreational activities for pediatric psychiatric patients under general supervision of the Psychiatry team. Requires the ability to remain calm and professional when working with aggressive or unpredictable patient behaviors. Will also provide recreational therapy in the Child Life Zone providing activities for patients and siblings.This includes program planning, treatment implementation and documentation.The therapist will function as a member of the interdisciplinary team to deliver an integrated plan of care.

Hours: Weekend Coverage (Friday evenings & Sat/Sun days 7am - 3:30pm or 8am - 4:30pm)

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Therapy (or) Recreation from an accredited college or university. Master's Degree preferred.

  • 1 year of experience performing recreational therapy work in the treatment of patients required.

  • Previous experience working with psychiatric patients preferred.

  • Experienced in safely managing patients exhibiting aggressive or challenging behaviors.

  • Experience/Training in Experiential Therapy preferred.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification:

  • Certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist preferred.

  • BLS or must be completed within 60 days of start date.

  • CPI Non-Violent Crisis Intervention - Units 1-7 & 9-10 plus the CPI Children's Control Position from Unit 8 or must be completed within 60 days of start date.
