Qualifications

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in education, business management, or a social or behavioral science and one year of full-time professional experience in educational instruction or training, behavioral instruction, or working with individuals with disabilities.

Substitution of Education for Experience: One year of qualifying graduate coursework in education, business management, or a social or behavioral science may be substituted for the required experience.

Substitution of Experience for Education: Additional qualifying full-time professional experience as listed above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for- year basis.

Necessary Special Qualifications: Applicants for this class must:

  1. Complete a criminal history disclosure form in a manner approved by the appointing authority;
  2. Agree to release all records involving their criminal history to the appointing authority;
  3. Supply a fingerprint sample prescribed by the TBI based criminal history records check;
  4. Submit to a review of their status on the Department of Health's vulnerable persons registry.

Overview

This classification is responsible for vocational rehabilitation behavioral instruction work of average difficulty. An employee in this class assesses student's interpersonal vocational skills, develops instructional curricula and student learning plans, selects and implements training methods, and evaluates students' progress. This classification performs responsibilities at the working level under general supervision.

Responsibilities

  1. Provides instruction to students and participants focused on social/emotional support classes, employment skills, appropriate work behavior/attitudes and academic preparation courses for their area of study.
  2. Develops and revises curriculum to teach students at a level in line with current job trends and identifies the training needs of students and participants.
  3. Individualizes work activities and tasks to accommodate the abilities of each student to enhance self-sufficiency and independence for transition into the community. Directs or provides oversight and training to students and employers during internships and may accompany students to the internship site to meet with partners or provide job coaching.
  4. Prepares a variety of records and reports such as daily attendance records, progress reports, and behavioral documentation.
  5. Actively participates in meetings, events, committees, and maintains open communication across campus and with other vocational rehabilitation staff. Establishes and maintains business relationships throughout the state to partner in the creation of student employment opportunities.
  6. Meets with students, participants, colleagues, counselors and/or individual supports and gathers information to address any conduct concerns.
  7. Provides training to students on employment readiness skills such as resume writing, interview techniques, job application processes, and effective job search strategies to support their successful entry into the workforce.
  8. Assists students in identifying internship opportunities that align with their employment goals, establishes internship parameters, and completes internship packets with the partnering business. Directs or provides oversight and training to students and employers during internships and may accompany students to the internship site to meet with partners or provide job coaching.
