- Tulsa Spine & Specialty Hospital (specializes in surgical services, diagnostic imaging and pain management, offering state-of-the-art MRI, computed tomography and myelography technology.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates knowledge of basic case preparation including knowledge of supplies and equipment relevant to the specific procedures and specialities.
- Performs surgical prep per the surgeon's directive.
- Assist with homeostasis by applying tourniquets, direct pressure, homeostasis clips, non-crushing clamps, vessel loops, tying or ligation of vessels or tissue, and or injection of homeostatic agents.
- Provides enhanced visualization of the operative site by suctioning, irrigating or sponging; and proper use of body mechanics to prevent obstruction of the surgeon's view should be incorporated.
- Performs closure of subcutaneous and skin layers using running or interrupted sutures, places skin staples and or adhesive skin closure per surgeon's directive.
- Performs subcutaneous injection of local anesthetic per surgeon's directive.
- Selects and applies appropriate wound dressings.
- Performs post procedure evaluation including assessment of skin.
- Understands sterile and aseptic technique, applies the concept of surgical conscience, reports and appropriately responds to breaks in technique.
- Works within AORN and AST guidelines.
Qualifications
Job Requirements:
- Graduate of a Certified Surgical First Assist program, equivalent training as an LPN, or five years of experience in scrubbing operative procedures.
- Certified Surgical First Assist (NBSTSA)
- Minimum of two years of clinical practice with experience in the specific field.
- Basic Life Support certification
