DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Utility Plant Operator, your primary role involves overseeing inmates while ensuring security and adherence to safe operating procedures. This includes monitoring and interpreting various gauges, meters, and sensing devices, as well as performing routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment. Additionally, you will be tasked with providing essential heat and hot water for institutional operations by effectively managing boiler functions, which encompass the generation of medium pressure steam.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40-hour work week
  • Work Schedule: 2 shifts will be available:
    • Split shift with rotating days off. Half the week hours will be 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM. and the other half of the week hours will be 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
    • 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with rotating days off.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925 (before taxes). However, a higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
  • These positions are eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
