Department: Univ Athletics-Lacrosse
Salary/Grade: EXS/32

Job Summary:

The Assistant Coach reports to the Head Women's Lacrosse Coach and assists in recruiting, fundraising, coaching, video analysis and scouting, preseason conditioning, budget formulation, analysis, and management of the Women's Lacrosse team.

*Willingness and ability to work a non-traditional schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays as required.

Specific Responsibilities:

Coaching

  • Assist the head coach in coaching and training the Northwestern Women's Lacrosse team; develop and conduct all in-season and out-of-season sessions throughout the year as deemed necessary and appropriate.
  • Assist with the psychological preparation of team in both pre-game and post-game, develop motivational approach to practice and games.
  • Work to develop comprehensive knowledge of lacrosse in decision-making, handling authority and setting and meeting objectives.
  • Oversee and assist in the training of the second assistant for all job responsibilities.
  • Work with student athletes individually developing specific skills that will help them be successful on the field.

Administrative

  • Work with appropriate NUDAR staff in preparing for all home matches; supervise team manager during home and away events.
  • Cooperate with Athletic Communications and Marketing departments in publicizing and marketing the Northwestern Lacrosse program; work with the N Club to promote the program. Spearhead fundraising efforts with the lacrosse booster club.
  • Develop and maintain all statistical performance records for individual student-athletes and the team.
  • Supervise and inventory all lacrosse equipment; distribute meal money to student-athletes and maintain ledger on budget expenditures for away trips and matches.
  • Assist with coordination and assignment of officials as needed.
  • Assist with booking travel arrangements, hotel accommodations, and bus rentals.

Recruiting

  • Assist in recruiting for the lacrosse program; identify and contact qualified prospective student-athletes; schedule on-campus visits, establish itineraries and communicate regularly with coaches of the prospective student-athletes.
  • Establish and maintain all files on prospective student-athletes.

Other

  • Coordinate video analysis for scouting and team self-analysis and individual player development.
  • Responsible for adhering to all Department and University policies and procedures, as well as the rules, regulations, bylaws and interpretations of the Big Ten Conference, CSC and the NCAA.
  • Responsible for adhering to all Department and University continuing education initiatives and required certifications and trainings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, SKILLS) Identify the minimum qualifications required to successfully perform the job. Qualifications include education, experience, specialized knowledge, professional certification.

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and effectively interact and establish engaging relationships with a wide variety of constituents.
  • Significant detail orientation, communication, and coordination skills to facilitate the execution of tasks across team and all department units.
  • Strong proficiency in video, scouting, and recruiting technologies. Willingness and ability to stay up to date with new technologies, such as AI and data analytics.
  • Advanced interpersonal and communication skills to effectively support the development of student athletes, both in their academic and athletic performance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, SKILLS)

  • Knowledge of rules and regulations of the NCAA, CSC, Big Ten Conference and Northwestern University preferred

Target hiring range for this position will be between $60,000 to $72,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
