The Library and Information Science (
LIS) Department in the School of Communication and Information (SC&I) at Rutgers University-New Brunswick, invites applications for an open rank Library and Information Science faculty position (tenure track at assistant, associate, or full professor levels) in the area of:
* Public or academic librarianship
Areas of focus
within public or academic librarianship may include: community-engaged librarianship; social services and social work links; scholarly communication; librarianship for specialized groups; intellectual freedom and privacy; topical expertise in the arts, science, sustainability, climate and/or the environment, crises and disaster relief, medicine and health, multiple literacies and learning.
The
LIS department is a charter member of the iSchools organization, has a dynamic research and learning culture, is international in scope and local in impact, and is in an exciting period of growth. We seek candidates whose work advances scholarly agendas in their given fields and complements our faculty's strengths, and who can deliver excellent instruction for students within our undergraduate and graduate programs. As their careers advance, ideal faculty hires will be well positioned to lead externally funded research projects and to initiate and strengthen collaborative research efforts within the
LIS Department, SC&I, and across Rutgers University.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a relevant field is expected as of June 2026. Applicants should have a demonstrated record or strong likelihood of top-tier peer-reviewed publications and evidence of or preparation for effective teaching. Applicants at the associate level or above should provide evidence of leadership in research, teaching, service, and, if appropriate, external funding.

LIS academic discipline and relevant fields.
* Professional experience in librarianship practice is a plus. |

The School of Communication and Information (SC&I) on the Rutgers-New Brunswick campus houses a dynamic community of scholars who conduct research and teach in the areas of communication, information science, media studies, information technology, journalism, librarianship, organizational and health communication, public relations, and other professional practice areas. SC&I has about 2,500 enrolled students and teaches thousands of other Rutgers students in our five undergraduate programs, two masters degrees, interdisciplinary doctoral program, and non-degree continuing education programs. Immunization Requirements
Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
