We are looking for a Senior Adviser HSEC Risk and Governance to lead the design, development, and implementation of Health, Safety, Environment, and Community (HSEC) programs.

This role supports the business in simplifying HSEC processes, ensuring regulatory compliance, and enhancing performance through expert guidance and strategic initiatives.

Reporting to the Manager, Health, Security & Emergency Services, you will:

  • Analyze HSEC performance data to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for improvement.

  • Develop and maintain documentation for HSEC systems, assurance, and data control processes.

  • Streamline reporting and data verification processes to enhance clarity, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

  • Support the development and management of HSEC data systems across Kennecott.

  • Implement data validation checks to eliminate errors and address systemic issues.

  • Contribute to the creation and execution of HSEC assurance plans and schedules.

  • Deliver quarterly cross-training and capability-building initiatives to strengthen team performance.

  • Champion a proactive safety culture by modeling exemplary behavior and setting clear expectations.

  • Integrate safety into operational strategies, policies, and procedures.

  • Drive cost reduction initiatives and establish rigorous cost discipline to maximize free cash flow.

  • Foster a high-performance culture aligned with Kennecott's objectives across mining, smelting, refining, and rail operations.

  • Uphold Rio Tinto's values of care, courage, and curiosity, promoting ethical conduct and long-term sustainability.

  • Provide performance updates to senior leadership and stakeholders, offering solutions and identifying opportunities.

  • Lead change initiatives and facilitate critical decisions to embed Rio Tinto's "best operator" framework into daily operations.

  • Monitor health performance and support the implementation of occupational health and hygiene systems.

  • Ensure compliance with statutory regulations and internal HSEQ management systems.

  • Recommend and implement risk mitigation strategies across the workforce.

What you'll bring

  • A strong commitment to safety-for yourself and your team.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and qualifications.

  • 5-10 years of experience in HSEC management systems, ideally in mining, construction, or industrial settings.

  • Knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, and U.S. environmental regulations.

  • Expertise in risk assessment and mitigation strategy development.

  • Proven leadership and team management capabilities.

  • Trusted advisor with strong stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

  • Strategic mindset with a proactive approach to risk and issue management.

  • Demonstrated success in implementing HSE programs and initiatives

Where you'll be working

Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter, and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. We produce copper, precious metals including gold and silver, molybdenum, and sulfuric acid. Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903 and is one of the top producing mines in the world, comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.
