JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS Applications are invited for the position of Consulting Laboratory Animal Veterinarian for the Animal Resource Program (ARP) at The Pennsylvania State University. This position is located at the University Park Campus located in State College, PA. The Consulting Laboratory Animal Veterinarian will provide veterinary care for the University's research and teaching animals during temporary absences of ARP's faculty veterinarians. This veterinarian will assist in ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies regarding the care and use of animals in research and teaching. Responsibilities include veterinary clinical care, disease surveillance and biosecurity, oversight or performance of clinical procedures including anesthesia and surgery, collection and/or analysis of clinical samples, and necropsies. This includes emergency and on-call responsibilities. Additional responsibilities may include training of research and animal care staff, investigating animal welfare concerns, and assisting with post-approval monitoring of research projects. Qualifications include a DVM/VMD from an AVMA accredited school and prior experience with laboratory and research animal care. Outstanding interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work well with a diverse population are required. This job requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid US driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
