The Sr Staff Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines, infrastructure, and data visualization to support our data-driven decision-making processes. The scope of this job includes collaborating with data scientists, analysts, solutions partners, and other stakeholders to increase data quality, accessibility, and security.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise and leverage data pipelines, data models, reporting, and dashboards to solve business problems or assigned tasks in coordination with multiple teams.
  • Research, develop, and maintain data solutions to enable new or existing solutions and BI development for the enterprise-driven data warehouse and data visualization solutions.
  • Maintain and optimize current data infrastructure for performance, scalability, and reliability across all data workflows.
  • Influence code reviews through WellSky solution subject matter expertise across multiple business units.
  • Develop and train teammates for data security, architecture, and governance requirements while maintaining data quality standards through automation.
  • Strategize business requirements and translate work into data engineering architecture while adhering to WellSky's core values, ensuring PHI data security, and adapting to changing BI technologies.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience
  • At least 12-15 years of related work experience
  • Proven track record of successfully leading large-scale data platform migrations and modernization projects
  • Core Platforms & Architecture:
    • BigQuery Expert: Advanced optimization, cost controls, Lakehouse architecture, and enterprise-scale migrations from legacy systems (MS SQL, Teradata, Oracle)
    • Data Architecture: Star schema design, dimensional modeling, and modern data platform patterns for analytics-ready solutions
    • Programming & Infrastructure: Python, SQL, Terraform for automated, scalable data engineering
  • Modern Data Stack & Integration
    • Data Processing & Transformation: Dataflow, Airflow, dbt, Dataform for high-volume pipeline orchestration
    • Enterprise Integration: HVR/Fivetran or DataStream for real-time data replication across SQL Server, Snowflake, and BigQuery
    • Business Intelligence: Tableau, Looker, or Sisense with advanced user administration and performance optimization

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Healthcare industry experience

Job Expectations:

  • Willing to work additional or irregular hours as needed
  • Must work in accordance with applicable security policies and procedures to safeguard company and client information
  • Must be able to sit and view a computer screen for extended periods of time
