Summary

Responsible for performing complex maintenance and upkeep duties of City parks, grounds, buildings, athletic fields and related facilities.

Pay Range: $17.40 - $19.25 (Depending on qualifications and experience)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Operate tractor with mower attachments, including one ton truck with trailer, riding mower, edger, line trimmer, backpack blower, push lawnmower, etc.

  • Collect litter and debris from parks, grounds, buildings, athletic fields and related facilities.

  • Perform tree maintenance and removal throughout at City parks, grounds, buildings, athletic fields and related facilities.

  • Plant replacement trees as necessary.

  • Service, maintain and clean all equipment and tools used.

  • Clean and prepare shelters/pavilions for reservations.

  • Assist in the set up and tear down of special events.

  • Operate a city vehicle to assist in carrying out routine maintenance.

  • Clean and sanitize public restrooms.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)

  • 2 years of related experience

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

  • 2-4 years of experience in park maintenance, operating trucks, tractors or related equipment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Intermediate knowledge of operating equipment in a safe manner Intermediate knowledge of or experience grounds maintenance and heavy equipment

  • Skill in operating smaller, parks maintenance equipment Ability to work in a team environment

  • Ability to pick up litter and debris, clean, mop and sanitize all parks pavilions and generally police all parks and recreational areas and facilities

  • Ability to work independently of the supervisor

Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid Class C Texas driver's license

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

The incumbent works with frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk. May be exposed to extremes of heat and cold, rain, humidity, wetness, insects, noxious odors, fumes, and physical stress from exertion and lifting. Exposed to physical exertion such as bending, lifting, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing. Ability to lift 50 pounds.
