TITLE: Sr. Material Control Coordinator
POSITION OBJECTIVE: To oversee incoming material being received and ordering needed materials for plant operations. To ensure that all materials used for packaging finished product are of correct sizes needed and that packing codes are set up for auto-deducting these as used from inventory along with inventory control.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED equivalency preferred.
- College education preferred.
- One-year experience in Material Control functions
- Good verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of data-based computer software.
- Ensure consistent, dependable attendance and demonstrate a willingness to accommodate non-standard work hours as necessary.
- Capable of effectively managing job-related stress and fostering productive workplace interactions.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide leadership and direction to the material handlers and warehouse for the purpose of maintaining the materials within the coordinator's areas of stewardship.
- Provide assistance to the clerk and the material handlers within their respective areas.
- Substitute for the manager or senior lead in their absence.
- Check sequence daily for new orders added.
- Ensure that cartons, cores, sleeves, resin masterbatch, etc., are on hand when order is scheduled to run.
- Communicate with NJ material control, vendors, and NJ scheduling to coordinate the arrival of needed material.
- Report any delays or problems encountered with the arrival of needed material to the manager.
- Check inventory figures and reports to investigate variance daily, and report findings to the manager.
- Assign railcars to appropriate silos when silos are low or empty.
- Verify the quantity of the material from railcars by taking physical inventory of material after railcar has been emptied, match physical quantity to bill of lading. If material is off more than 5552 lbs., report to manager.
- Inventory weekly and month end.
- Set up carton specifications and pallet configurations for new orders as requested by NJ marketing department.
- Fill out S.S.A. forms and PR's for new materials.
- Assign packing codes to auto deduct materials used for each order.
- Cost reduction opportunity by looking at inner packaging, outer cartons, pallets, stretch wrap, labels, pads, twist ties, etc.
- Check existing packing codes to optimize volume capacity, weight limit capacity to lower transportation cost.
AUTHORITY / DECISION MAKING:
- Make decisions concerning the ordering of packaging material to control inventory levels.
- Make decisions concerning the changing of pack codes, pallet configurations, and packaging styles.
WORK ENVIRONMENT CONDITIONS SUBJECTED TO IN THIS POSITION:
- Ability to work in an environment that is extremely hot, and humid in the summer months, and cold in the winter months.
- Manufacturing environment.
