GRANT DIRECTOR- Remote Possible General Statement of Duties Plans, develops, and facilitates the implementation of grant projects. Their duties include identifying funding opportunities, researching, writing, and submitting grant proposals, and collaborates with various departments/organizations in the county to identify funding opportunities and to develop and submit competitive grant proposals. Once funding is secured, creates systems and processes for performance and financial reporting. The role is crucial in securing funding to support the County’s development, initiatives, and County projects and financial reporting. Distinguishing Features of the Class This position requires an employee with exceptional research and communication skills, both written and verbal. The employee will be responsible for developing grant proposals that align with the strategic priorities of Alleghany County. Strong attention to detail and a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities in rural Counties are essential. Work is performed under the general supervision of the County Manger and is evaluated based on the employee’s ability to conduct independent research, manage cross-departmental coordination, and effectively secure funds through grant acquisition and management. Duties and Responsibilities Essential Duties and Tasks Identifies and pursues funding opportunities by researching and evaluating state, federal, and private grant opportunities that align with County goals and funding trends. Manages the full life cycle of grant proposals, including drafting, editing, assembling, and submitting high-quality, tailored applications and letters of inquiry. Develops persuasive content that clearly communicates organizational impact, program outcomes, and funding needs, incorporating storytelling and data. Collaborates across departments to work cross-functionally with leadership and internal teams to gather content, data, and budget information to support proposals and ensure alignment with strategic goals and messaging. Prepares accurate interim and final reports for funders, including narrative updates, outcome metrics, and budget reconciliations. Maintains documentation for all grant-related activities and compliance requirements. Coordinates communication and stakeholder engagement by serving as primary liaison between internal teams, leadership, and external partners. Facilitates regular check-ins and provides consistent updates, status reports, and issue escalation as needed. Assists with preparation for annual audit and any other funder visits, reviews, or evaluations as appropriate. Additional Job Duties Performs related duties as required. Recruitment and Selection Guidelines Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Understanding of federal, state, and private grant sources, including eligibility, compliance, and reporting requirements. Familiarity with government operations, budgeting, and strategic planning. Insight into rural County challenges, economic development, and social services. Knowledge of how to interpret data to support funding proposals and measure outcomes. Ability to identify funding opportunities, gather supporting data, and analyze community needs. Crafty persuasive, clear, and tailored grant proposals and reports. Present ideas effectively to boards, stakeholders, and funding agencies. Coordinating timelines, deliverable, and cross-departmental collaborations. Develop and interpret budgets for grant applications and program implementation. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, data visualization tolls, and grant programs. Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in proposals, budgets, and compliance documentation. Ability to move projects forward with minimal supervision while maintaining accountability. Must be comfortable with public speaking. Physical Requirements Must be able to perform the basic life operational skills of fingering, talking, and hearing. Must be able to perform sedentary work, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal, and do extensive reading. Desirable Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in public administration, Business Administration, related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 2 to 5 years of progressive grant writing experience with a strong funding track record. Demonstrated experience in project management, preferable in nonprofit or mission driven environments. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage priorities and deadlines. Proficiency with grant databases, project management tools, and Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with federal grant processes and compliance requirements. Position is open until filled.
