The Systems Engineer III serves as a senior engineering and integration specialist supporting the development, modernization, and technical advancement of DISA's cyber sensing capabilities. This role will lead complex engineering tasks including requirements decomposition, architecture support, system integration, performance testing, interoperability validation, and solution prototyping for OSP, FPCAP, ASV, IDS, and next generation sensing platforms. The Systems Engineer III will work closely with the Engineering Lead, Government PMs, and multi discipline engineering teams to ensure new sensing solutions meet mission, performance, scalability, and security objectives.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Lead system engineering and integration activities supporting the modernization, enhancement, and development of DISA sensing capabilities under Task Area 6.5.
  • Translate mission needs and operational gaps into detailed system and technical requirements.
  • Develop system architectures, interface definitions, engineering diagrams, and design documentation supporting sensing development activities.
  • Serve as senior integrator for lab, cloud, and production representative environments including configuration, deployment, testing, and validation of sensing capabilities.
  • Lead the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of sensing hardware, software, virtual appliances, network devices, and storage systems.
  • Direct integration and interoperability testing, validating that new sensing capabilities operate cohesively with associated systems, tools, and data pipelines.
  • Lead performance testing, stress testing, throughput evaluation, and data validation activities to ensure sensor accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Conduct engineering assessments, trade studies, and analyses of alternatives (AoAs) for new sensing technologies, cloud migration opportunities, and modernization strategies.
  • Provide senior technical input for Preliminary Design Reviews (PDRs), Critical Design Reviews (CDRs), SRRs, SFRs, and related engineering forums.
  • Produce advanced engineering documentation including system design descriptions, updated ICDs, test plans, test scripts, engineering reports, build guides, and lab configuration documentation.
  • Collaborate with developers, system administrators, A&A personnel, cybersecurity SMEs, and operations staff to ensure engineering designs align with security, RMF, and operational requirements.
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues, replicate defects in lab environments, and lead resolution strategies with cross functional teams.
  • Provide mentoring, technical guidance, and coordination for Systems Engineer II personnel and other engineering team members.



DESIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & CERTIFICATIONS:


  • Active DoD Secret clearance.
  • Ten (10) or more years of experience in systems engineering or integration roles supporting DoD, cybersecurity, or large scale enterprise environments
  • Expertise in engineering distributed sensor systems, cyber tools, or enterprise security monitoring solutions
  • Strong understanding of system design, architecture, networking, virtualization, Linux/Windows systems, and cloud technologies
  • Demonstrated experience conducting integration, performance, regression, or interoperability testing
  • Skilled in developing architecture diagrams, interface control documents, system design descriptions, and technical engineering documentation
  • Experience supporting engineering reviews (SRR/SFR/PDR/CDR)
  • Experience with SIEM integration, packet capture tools, IDS/IPS, or cyber defense technologies highly preferred
  • Ability to lead small engineering teams, manage priorities, and coordinate multi stakeholder technical activities
  • Strong communication skills and ability to brief technical information to Government customers

Pay Range: $120,000 - $128,000 per year
