DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will be responsible for preparing samples and conducting tests in strict adherence to established protocols set forth by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Standards, ASTM International, and the Pennsylvania Test Methods (PTMs). Your duties will include documenting the results of tests performed on various materials, such as asphalt concrete pavement core samples, asphalt mixture samples, liquid asphalt binder samples, and emulsified asphalt samples, ensuring that all findings are accurately reported. Furthermore, you will be tasked with verifying that all testing equipment is properly calibrated before use, as well as maintaining cleanliness in the laboratory by routinely cleaning test equipment, laboratory workspaces, and storage areas on a daily basis.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • This position may require travel as needed.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Technical Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of experience in the testing of materials used in highway, bridge, building, hydraulic or similar construction projects and graduation from high school; or
  • An Associate's Degree in a civil engineering technology or closely related field; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
