Position Summary

DEFINITION Under the appropriate administrator, coordinates, facilitates, and oversees technical work in the ceramics/sculpture studio and values and promotes the mission and vision of the college.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS The incumbent is expected to ensure assisting instructors in the management of kiln firing materials, inventory monitoring and ordering and maintenance of tools and equipment. The incumbent is expected to communicate effectively with faculty, students, and support the student learning experience.

Essential Functions and Qualifications

- Loads, unloads and fires gas and electric kilns.
- Work cooperatively with those contacted in the course of work.
- Ensures proper care of projects.
- Monitors the inventory of clay and glaze materials, assists in preparing replacement orders.
- Makes minor adjustments to kilns as needed.
- Maintain record of work orders.
- Maintains potter's wheels, electric and kick, power tools and other equipment as needed.
- Organizes and maintains glaze and storage areas.
- Adheres to district policies relating to health and safety.
- Make glazes, oxide washes and slips.
- Organize recycling clay and reclaim clay.
- Perform other related duties as needed.
Knowledge of:
- Standard equipment, procedures, supplies and materials related to ceramics and sculpture;
- Recordkeeping and filing techniques;
- Inventory methods and procedures;
- Safe handling procedures for ceramic/sculpture materials.
Demonstrated ability to:
- Maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with staff and students;
- Initiate actions to improve present facilities and procedures;
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing;
- Understand and carry out oral and written instruction;
- Use counterbalance forklift;
- Organize and inventory studio materials and supplies.
Working Conditions:
- Duties are primarily performed in a studio or office environment.
- The incumbent will experience interruptions while performing normal duties during the regular workday.
- The incumbent will have contact, in person, over email or on the telephone, with executive, management, supervisory, academic and classified staff and the general public.
Physical Demands:
- Typically may stand or sit for extended periods of time.
- Operates a computer.
- Communicates over the telephone, via email, video conferencing, and in person.
- Regularly lifts, carries and/or moves objects weighing up to 50 pounds, occasionally more than 50 pounds.
Special Qualification:
Evidence of a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and to staff and students with disabilities.

Minimum Qualifications
-
Education and Experience An associates degree, or higher, or equivalent. Two years of ceramic/sculpture studio experience, including experience working with fire and electric kilns and related equipment or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
License and Certifications Required:
- Possession of a valid and appropriate California driver's license.
- Forklift operator certification required within the first year of employment.

The desired start date is August 2025. This is a part-time, 19.5-hour, classified, 10-month position. Work Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and Friday 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. To be considered for this position, the candidate must submit the following application materials by Wednesday, August 6, 2025 by 11:59 PST:
