Job Summary

This Admin Assistant II is responsible for performing courier duties in support of the Dermatopathology Service. Duties include daily pickup and delivery of specimens, supplies and medical equipment among the various labs of Dermatopathology. Must be able to discern the urgency of requests and prioritize deliveries. Coordination of the receipt of medical specimens from outside physician offices and labs. These functions are performed under minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment, which requires significant attention to detail in order to provide a high level of accuracy. Must also always hold self in a professional manner and be presentable.

Covered under University series concept / job specification for classification 4723. Under general supervision works on operational and/or procedural assignments that are moderately difficult, requiring judgment in resolving procedural issues. Makes recommendations to improve processes and/or procedures.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $25.72 - $36.59 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The Department of Pathology at UCSF aims to achieve the highest standards in patient care, research and education. The Department provides diagnostic pathology services in a wide variety of subspecialties with highly trained subspecialists who are recognized nationally and internationally for their expertise. The Department's research programs are diverse and interface with a wealth of basic and translational research programs that are a hallmark of UCSF. Our educational programs include a research-intensive academic residency program and fellowships in cytopathology, dermatopathology, gastrointestinal and liver pathology, gynecologic pathology, neuropathology and surgical pathology.

Required Qualifications


  • High school graduation and min 1 year of related courier experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work accurately, thoroughly, in a collaborative manner using sound judgement;
  • Must be fast moving and accurate;
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Proven reliability in the areas of timeliness and attendance;
  • Attention to detail, ability to work in a fast paced environment;
  • Ability to lift 40-60 lb boxes.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Knowledge of the various procedures performed by Dermatopathology.
  • Must be able to read and interpret object containing small print.
