Job Summary
The Ambulatory Associate Chief Nursing Executive (ACNE) is a strategic visionary leader responsible for the elevation of nursing practice and patient care in ambulatory care settings throughout UCDH. As a member of the UCDH Executive Nursing leadership, the Ambulatory ACNE will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to enhance professional ambulatory nursing practice, ambulatory operations, care coordination, and transitions of care across the network. At the direction of the CNE, the Ambulatory ACNE is also accountable for ensuring nursing care is provided to the appropriate quality, licensing, and accreditation standards. The leader will cultivate an environment of continuous improvement and mobilize decision-makers to improve patient outcomes across the continuum of care. Apply By Date: 7/28/2025. - A valid California Registered Nurse License
- Bachelor's degree (BSN) in nursing.
- Completion of an accredited nursing degree program.
- Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) or a health-related field.
- Seven to ten years of current progressive leadership experience as a proven nurse leader in a complex academic care setting is required.
- Academic medical center experience required.
- Leadership experience in a Magnet recognized ambulatory healthcare setting.
- Leadership experience in a highly complex California unionized environment is required.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, complex, matrixed academic environment.
- Strong conceptual nursing base with expertise in professional practice models, systems thinking, and quality improvement processes.
- Demonstrated record of effective nurse recruitment and retention strategies, including the ability to develop and retain new graduate nurses.
- Demonstrated responsibility for regulatory and HR practices with direct experience in regulatory surveys (TJC, CDPH, etc.) and in labor practice reviews and investigations (ER, LR, Compliance, BRN).
- Participates in budget development to establish priorities and resources to achieve expected outcomes, measures expectations against actual budgetary performance, and ensures variances are within given targets.
- Personal commitment to the development and advancement of clinical leaders throughout the organization.
- Demonstrated passion for the delivery of the highest level of service to patients and their families.
- Successful track record employing quality, safety, and performance improvement initiatives that achieve superior clinical quality, favorable financial outcomes, and high patient and nurse satisfaction and engagement.
- Proven ability of building internal and external relationships, with a demonstrated track record of working successfully with, academic partners, physicians and, physician leaders, diverse management teams and Health System partners in various departments (i.e. Infection Prevention, EH&S, Pharmacy, Clinical Affairs, Risk, Compliance, PCS, Clinical Engineering, Central Distribution, Pathology, CPPN, Center for Nursing Science, Quality and others.).

Department Overview The Ambulatory Care Division provides a full complement of facilities and services, including primary and specialty care, hospital-based teaching clinics, community clinics, and research clinics. The full complement of facilities and services includes 40 hospital-based clinics and 25 medical practices serving Sacramento, Yolo, and Placer counties. The division oversees complex care delivery in clinics, infusion centers, gastroenterology procedure labs, imaging centers, and neuroscience and sleep labs. Ambulatory operations also offers a vast array of virtual care through office-based primary care and specialty telehealth video visits, eConsults, and extended hours, telehealth express care. The Division is committed to maintaining a fully integrated Academic Health Center, contributing to excellence in patient care and the enhancement of educational and research initiatives. The Clinical Operations Department is responsible for many of the Ambulatory Care Division's outpatient clinic activities. Clinical Operations Administrative staff advise executives regarding key business decisions, help support and improve ongoing operations, and report on a broad variety of business critical financial and operational metrics.
