Position/Department Summary:

Works with laboratory leadership to oversee and maintain the point of care testing (POCT) performed throughout the hospital and satellite locations. Researches the appropriate test methodologies, establishes procedure, protocols, validations coordinate training, competency, and proficiency of staff. Reviews quality control, instrument/kit maintenance, and the communication of test results. Works with staff to ensure that testing performed is consistent with quality and the mission and goals of the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates, validates, troubleshoots, and maintains Point of Care Testing Program.
  • Establishes, reviews, and revises policies and procedures for the POCT program.
  • Ensures that POCT meets all regulatory requirements for accreditation standards throughout the enterprise. This includes clinical staff competency.
  • Follow the guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Reviews and evaluates all Quality Control. Ensures that the test systems are functioning properly resolves technical problems and ensures that remedial/corrective actions are taken and documented as necessary.
  • Maintains and monitors comprehensive Quality Assurance and proficiency testing programs.
  • Develops, delivers and participates in training, competency, and educational programs.
  • Maintains working knowledge of infection control concepts, risk management, environmental safety, emergency preparedness, accident prevention, and disaster plans.
  • Effectively communicates, instructs and works with health care providers, patients, and vendors on issues such as test interpretation, recommendations for alternate testing, instrumentation, and problems with specimens/methodology.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or Medical Lab Science required

Experience:

  • 5 or more years clinical laboratory experience required

Certification, Registration, or Licensure Required

  • National certification required
