What You'll Do

The position is an intermediate level position where the incumbent is responsible for providing support and technical leadership and expertise to Y-12 Readiness Leaders in support of the Y-12 Readiness Assurance Program (RAP). This position focuses on the startup of various Y-12 Projects and supporting ongoing evaluations of Production Operations through their Production Evaluation Process Review (PEPR) and the Production Readiness Re-Certification Process. This position is also referred to as a Readiness Support Team member where the individual serves under the oversight of a qualified Readiness Leader.

The role of the Readiness Support position is to provide multi-disciplinary technical support to ensure that startups and restarts of a wide range of complex and specialized operational systems are accomplished meeting operational readiness expectations.

In accomplishing this role, the Readiness Support Team member will be responsible to:



  • Serve as an evaluator for one or more functional areas associated with operational readiness activities. Evaluate completed technical documents, conduct system walkdowns, witness operations, etc., to ensure that the activity being evaluated is fully ready to support operations or in the case of the PEPR evaluations is being conducted in accordance with management expectations;
  • Support and represent the Y-12 RAP in the resolution of technical problems and make decisions and recommendations to the Readiness Leader or Project Manager;
  • Support the Readiness Leader in the development of plans and schedules to ensure the appropriate areas are being evaluated;
  • Ensure that the tasks required for attaining operational readiness are fully accomplished with high quality products that can withstand the scrutiny of contractually required operational readiness confirmation reviews;
  • Serve as a team member of readiness review teams that perform readiness reviews to confirm operational readiness or perform Safety Basis Implementation Verification Reviews (IVRs) to verify that the requirements, assumptions, and controls from safety basis documents Documented Safety Analysis (DSA) and Technical Safety Requirements (TSR) are correctly captured in the documents and are fully implemented;
  • Support the Readiness Leader in the selection of Performance Criteria in the Readiness Certification Assurance Process Tracking System (RCAPTS) and the management and completion of the verification of evidence;
  • Conduct Management Assessments of various Readiness Program elements including safety basis implementation. This entails the evaluation of technical documents for adequacy and compliance with management requirements, evaluation of operations for adequacy of performance and compliance with operating procedures and conduct of operation principles; and
  • Evaluate issues identified during reviews, including participation in root cause analysis, evaluation of the adequacy of planned corrective actions, and validating closure through the issue management system.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
  • OR Master's degree: Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
  • OR Tenor more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting.
  • The position requires a combination of technical and operational readiness experience and skills. The successful candidate will have experience in a combination of conducting operational readiness confirmation reviews (Readiness Reviews, Implementation Verification Reviews, and Operational Readiness Reviews) and/or in providing leadership in the attainment and validation of operational readiness for nuclear or high-hazard startup or restarts (preferably within the DOE or commercial nuclear power industry).
  • Experience in doing both the reviews and validation of the attainment of operational readiness is highly desirable and may be given greater credit over more general and less relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with the requirements of 10 CFR 830, Nuclear Safety Management, and experience with implementing requirements and controls in approved DOE Documented Safety Analysis (DSA)and Technical Safety Requirements (TSR) documents is highly desired.

Preferred Job Requirements

  • Strong technical, organizational, communication, and team building skills along with demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Having Project Management experience is considered a plus.

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
This position may require entry into the Material Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (10 C.F.R. Part 712), which requires successful competition of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation and may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.
