About the Unit
Our Labor and Delivery Unit within Butterworth Hospital, is a fast paced procedural unit, similar to a surgical environment within Women's Health. We have 28 Beds, 11 Triage (5 Prep & Recovery Bays, 3 ORs) and we average 8,000 births per year. It is the flagship hospital for Corewell Health Grand Rapids Hospitals. Scope of workThe Unit Secretary is the "go to" on each unit for clerical support. Responsibilities include helping to sanitize and turn over rooms between patients, taking phone calls, helping with traffic flow into/out of the locked unit, providing wayfinding directions to all visitors or outside team members to the unit (lab, radiology, patient transport, nutrition services, environmental services), paging overhead and calling support when directed by clinical staff, assisting with discharge, admit, and transfer charting within EPIC, ordering supplies, ensuring rooms are appropriately stocked, answering call lights for any non-direct patient care needs, etc. The Unit Secretary role is a very fast-paced role requiring strong communication skills, the ability to prioritize and multitask. You will often be tasked with multiple requests by various teammates and clear communication and prioritization of your responsibilities will be necessary. OrientationOrientation includes unit specific training during your first 4 weeks of work and may include some day shift training with a preceptor before phasing into the regular night shift schedule.
