FTE: 1.0, Shift: Day, Schedule: M-F 8-4:30pm

  • Able to work independently in home settings; nursing home settings; assisted living settings coordinating care with caregivers and family members.
  • Provide direct services to the Hospice patient/family to offer emotional and spiritual support through pastoral skills and counseling.
  • Enhance the patient's & family's capacity to cope with life-threatening illness and facilitate resolving conflicts.
  • Development and implementation of a spiritual care plan incorporating cultural, ethnic, religious or age specific needs of the patient/family.
  • Provide counseling to Hospice patients who are dealing with the difficulties of coping with illness and/or facing impending death.
  • Make referrals to other clergy as requested by patient/families.
  • Offers non-judgmental approach and is accepting of others beliefs/values.
  • Assist team members in the identification and understanding of patient's spiritual concern/issues.
  • Provides teaching to patient/family re: spiritual matters, death/dying; loss/grief issues.
  • Coordinates with the Interdisciplinary team in planning and achieving patient goals involving the patient and family in the care planning process.
  • Documents on laptops at point of care as outlined in policies/procedures
  • Achieves productivity requirements

Experience: Minimum of two (2) years relevant experience.

Licenses: Current driver's license and proof of insurance

Additional Requirements: Car for travel to and from home visits during shift.

Position Summary

The Staff Chaplain is responsible for providing Spiritual Care as part of the patient care programs. This ministry is directed primarily to patients and the families of patients, but also to the employees, medical staff and students of the institution. This position works closely with the multi-disciplinary team to provide a total intervention/counseling service and requires a service oriented individual with the ability to relate to the critically and/or terminally ill, handicap, disadvantaged, and individuals of various ethnic groups. Work situations are frequently non-routine and require sensitivity, the use of discretion, good judgment, and diplomacy. Internal contacts include staff and management throughout the organization. External contacts include patients, families, local clergy, religious lay groups, and outside service agencies.

Requirements


  • Master's degree in Theology, Pastoral Studies or related field required
  • One unit of Clinical Pastoral Education required
  • Two units of CPE strongly preferred; must complete two units within 8 months of hire
  • Board Certification preferred
  • Minimum two (2) years of pastoral experience OR completion of residency in a hospital setting preferred
