Position Summary:

Responsible as a member of the program team, observes and reports physical and behavioral symptoms under the supervision of the Acute Nurse Manager and/or Registered Nurse. The Lead Mental Health Technician (MHT) is an active participant in the implementation of physical care, therapeutic activities, and the academic program. Assist in planning and implementing treatment programs for patients, implements functional behavioral assessment/behavior intervention plans. The Lead MHT will provide additional support to the leadership team by providing oversight of the unit supplies, unit activities, and staff unit paperwork.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a role model/mentor for new staff to observe how to effectively manage the milieu, provide quality care and provide a safe/ structured environment.
  • Serves as a role model for patients/patients to observe and learn socially effective values, attitudes and behaviors.
  • Ensures environment remains safe and normative culture remains positive throughout facility. Contributes to formulation, implementation and revision of the patients/patient individual treatment plan.
  • Operates as a preceptor for new MHTs when they first begin their shadowing on the floor.
  • Provide oversight of MHT paperwork and prior to the end of the shift verify it is complete and accurate. Assist Acute Nurse Manager to ensures that deficiencies with medical notes are corrected in a timely manner.
  • In collaboration with the Acute Nurse Manager develops and implements unit specific activities for structured free times.
  • Plans, implements, evaluates activities on the complex and engages patients and self in same activities.
  • Develops, implements, facilitates and documents specialty groups utilizing individual expertise and talent.
  • Plans and implements patient social activities on campus.
  • In collaboration with the Acute Nurse Manager provide support with the completion of competency checks.
  • Exercises appropriate interventions under the direction of the Physician, Director of Nursing, Acute Nurse Manager and/or Registered Nurse.

Qualifications

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have least one (1) year of experience working in a residential, acute or inpatient psychiatric setting; an Associate's Degree in Psychology or related field from an accredited University or College and at least two (2) years of experience working in a residential, acute or inpatient psychiatric setting; a high school diploma or a General Education Development Certificate (G.E.D.) and a minimum of three (3) years of experience working with children. Must be Handle with Care, CPR and First Aid certified and hold a valid Virginia Driver's License. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment. Prefer 1 year of experience leading a team in a unit and/or department.
