Albemarle Corporation seeks Capital Program Sr. Manager in Charlotte, NC Job Duties: Responsible for all project technical deliverables, either developed internally or by approved 3rd party engineering service providers, ensuring adequate front-end engineering and scope development, along with overseeing the detailed design efforts to meet project requirements. Evaluate, select, and apply broad scientific techniques and engineering principles, to envision, develop, and execute engineering designs and to recommend solutions to complex problems, utilizing knowledge of chemical engineering and process design. Collaborate with the R&D and Process Technology teams on the conceptual and front-end engineering design efforts, partnering with engineering service providers. Ensure the accuracy of design information - according to corporate specifications and standards - whether done by Albemarle personnel or by outside contractors prior to being issued for design and construction. Develop project engineering plans, manage issues and risks, drive issue resolution, direct resources to deliver successful projects. Lead and manage both internal and external engineering resources to ensure project success. Ensure adequate engineering tracking and reporting controls are established to evaluate the project's progress and schedule performance. Work with project management as well as contracting and procurement to ensure requirements are included in commercial documents. Track and communicate engineering status and key milestones to internal (GBU) project stakeholders, and adjust project plans, budget requests and/or resources as required to meet project requirements. Research, interpret, and ensure compliance with regulatory and design codes and standards. Maintain awareness of changing requirements and consider them in engineering designs. Review technical feasibility of proposed solutions to engineering problems. Ensure constructability reviews are used in project phases to validate the completeness and operability of designs. Lead the development of the design basis for all project technical disciplines. Provide assistance in overseeing construction efforts and assist with any troubleshooting or problem solving required to meet the design intent. Verify drawings and design details of existing facility are up to date and all field modifications made during construction are accurately documented and released back to manufacturing in a timely manner. Communicate directly with outside equipment and material vendors to specify, obtain quotes, and follow up on purchases of equipment and services. Ensure teams (internal and external) review and revise engineering specifications and standards as required by supervision or as needed to ensure compliance with industry and regulatory requirements. Develop or enhance project tools and engineering guidelines used to standardize engineering design parameters and processes across multiple sites. Participate in HSE reviews, permit audits and housekeeping inspections. Ensure that process hazard analysis open/action items are adequately addressed in engineering deliverables prior to full project funding. Display and champion the Albemarle Core Values on the project team. Consult extensively with internal and external project team members, with a high degree of reliance placed on scientific interpretation and advice. Initiate and maintain extensive contact with key engineering management professionals of other professional organizations and companies. Influence management on strategic technical direction. Advise the business on applicable technology and innovation in the field of engineering management and control. Mentor engineering staff on technical and business aspects of projects. Negotiate critical and controversial issues with top-level leaders and managers.

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or related, or related field plus 5 years of related experience.

Requires 5 years of experience in the following:

Process design on projects with Total Installed Cost (TIC) budgets more than $25 million

Scale-up and commercialization of new technologies and processes from lab, pilot, and commercial scale.

Piping and Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs), mechanical, civil, structural, architectural, electrical, instrumentation and controls design and drawings

AutoCAD and/or 2D and 3D modeling tools

Projects with a variety of chemical process equipment including reactors, pumps, heat exchangers, solids handling equipment, or packaging equipment.

Working within a project stage-gate system environment, including essential success factors for early phase and execution projects.

Reading, understanding, and either modifying or developing project technical documentation across technical disciplines.

Project contracting strategies.

Project controls including estimating, scheduling, risk management, and cost control.

Developing, interpreting, and evaluating project and technical reports, including those used during detailed engineering.

Deploying and using constructability reviews during all project phases of deployment.

Requires 4 years of experience in engineering management.

Travel required at least 25% of the time to project sites, engineering contractor offices, and suppliers as needed to support project activities.
