New Journey is currently seeking a Cost Accountant for a direct hire position with our client in Kerrville, TX. Open to candidates willing to relocate to Kerrville, TX.
Compensation: $80,000 - 120,000 per year + 10% bonus potential, based on years of experience and skill level. Will provide some relocation assistance.
Schedule: Can work on a hybrid schedule, and be onsite in the office 2 days per week (prefers Tues and Thurs). Will work an 8-hour shift between 7am - 6pm CST.
About the role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cost Accountant to join our Accounting team within a vertically integrated manufacturing & retail company. The ideal candidate will be responsible for executing general ledger activities, monitoring inventory control, and analyzing manufacturing operating expenses, variances, product costs, and inventory valuation.
Essential Functions:
- General Ledger Management:
- Maintain and reconcile the general ledger accounts related to manufacturing operations, LIFO/FIFO inventory, and Cost of Goods Sold.
- Ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end close processes.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements.
- Inventory Control:
- Analyze and monitor inventory accuracy via system-driven cycle count programs, physical inventory observations, and monthly inventory reporting.
- Perform monthly site visits and process audits covering inventory accuracy and shrink.
- Collaborate with internal departments on reporting for inventory shrink in Retail, Distribution, and Manufacturing.
- Operating Expense Analysis:
- Analyze and report on manufacturing operating expenses evaluating actual results as compared to budget and prior year.
- Perform detailed analysis of operating variances, such as material usage, material cost, labor content, and overhead leverage.
- Product Costing:
- Develop and maintain system-driven cost processes for make and buy product lines at Raw Material, Work-in-process, and Finished Goods levels.
- Evaluate rates of absorption to use for direct labor & overhead for purposes of inventory valuation.
- Collaborate with Production, Data Governance, Procurement, and Engineering teams to ensure accurate cost data are loaded into the enterprise system via Routings, Bills of Materials and Cost Master.
- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and present financial reports related to manufacturing operations.
- Collaborate with Financial Planning and Analysis to prepare the budget and forecast.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- 4 years' experience in Accounting, General Ledger or Audit.
- 4+ years of Cost Accounting expertise
- Substantial understanding of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Strong understanding of the general ledger and cost accounting principles.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, such as Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel, primarily with pivot tables, Index/Match, XLookup, array formulas, etc.
- Working knowledge or experience with systems, such as enterprise system and/or business intelligence.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills including the ability to draw conclusions and identify trends from data in a logical and systematic way.
- Must be able to travel to various work locations as business need requires.
Preferred Skills
:
- Current Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
- Current Certified Management Accountant (CMA).
- Experience in manufacturing accounting & operations.
- Working knowledge or experience with Oracle or similar enterprise system, manufacturing shop floor execution system, and/or Incorta or similar business intelligence reporting tool.
