Position Summary: The Category Manager is responsible for leading the sourcing strategy and supplier management for assigned categories within our industrial engine and power generation business. This role will drive total cost improvement, manage supplier risk, ensure compliance with global trade and environmental regulations, and build supplier partnerships that enhance supply continuity, quality, and innovation. Essential Responsibilities: Category Strategy & Cost Management * Develop and execute a 2-3 year strategic sourcing plans for assigned categories aligned with company-wide goals (cost, risk, compliance, sustainability). * Conduct total cost of ownership (TCO) analyses and drive year-over-year cost savings through competitive sourcing, value analysis/value engineering (VA/VE), and demand aggregation. * Track and analyze cost drivers (materials, labor, logistics) to support should-cost modeling and supplier negotiations. Supplier Engagement & Relationship Management * Lead supplier selection, onboarding, and evaluation processes based on risk, capability, and strategic alignment. * Conduct regular Business Reviews with key suppliers to track performance, identify risks, and collaborate on improvement initiatives. * Establish preferred supplier agreements and implement supplier development plans for high-impact or underperforming suppliers. Risk Management & Business Continuity * Identify and assess supply risks (e.g., geopolitical, single-source exposure, financial instability, regulatory changes, trade barriers) for each category. * Develop and maintain risk mitigation strategies, including dual sourcing, buffer stock strategies, and proactive supplier monitoring. * Coordinate with internal stakeholders (engineering, operations, compliance) to ensure supply continuity for critical components. Compliance & Regulatory Oversight * Ensure all sourcing decisions meet applicable compliance standards, including REACH, RoHS, CBAM, conflict minerals, and U.S. Customs regulations. * Educate suppliers on evolving compliance requirements and drive proactive alignment with new standards. Cross-Functional Collaboration * Partner with engineering, operations, and quality teams to align supplier capabilities with product design and manufacturing requirements. * Support early supplier involvement (ESI) in new product development and design-for-manufacture (DFM) efforts. * Lead cross-functional cost reduction and process improvement initiatives tied to sourcing goals. Reporting & Performance Management * Maintain accurate category dashboards with KPIs, cost performance, risk status, compliance health, and supplier performance metrics. * Prepare sourcing updates and risk reports for executive and operational leadership on a monthly and quarterly basis. Requirements: *Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business, or related field (MBA or APICS/ISM certification a plus). *5+ years of sourcing/category management experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment. *Demonstrated success in strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, and risk mitigation. *Strong understanding of global supply chain risks, trade compliance, and commodity market dynamics. *Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Epicor) and analytics tools (Excel, Power BI, or similar). *Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and project management skills. *Strong analytical mindset with a continuous improvement orientation.
