DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Transportation Planning Specialist Trainee, you will engage in various daily tasks that contribute to the formulation and enhancement of the state's Highway Safety Plan. Your role will involve assisting in the evaluation of grant proposals, monitoring expenditures, and reviewing progress reports, as well as assessing the effectiveness of highway safety grant initiatives. In addition to these responsibilities, you will analyze proposed legislation pertaining to highway safety, providing critical information to bolster the department's stance on relevant issues. Your involvement will extend to supporting the operational aspects of the state's highway safety program, which includes organizing meetings and collaborating with personnel from state agencies, local governments, and diverse stakeholders. This collaborative effort will facilitate discussions surrounding the highway safety programs detailed in the Highway Safety Plan, ensuring that all parties are aligned in their commitment to improving road safety across the state.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, statistics, planning, computer science, or geography; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Other Requirements:
