Job Summary The Lane Support SME is an integral part of the Ridge Runner program as the overall responsible person for successful execution within their assigned area of operations. They will coordinate pre-exercise planning, activities and support during execution, and facilitate post-exercise close-out. They must be SMEs in Irregular Warfare and have excellent program management skills. Each Ridge Runner is unique, and Lane Support SMEs must be able to manage multiple exercises in various stages of planning and execution. Role and Responsibilities
  • Provide support services for the following departments and sections: WVNG Joint Staff office; WVNG J37, WVNG J3 Joint Operations Center, and WVNG Ridge Runner Program.
  • Provide administrative support for the Initial Planning Conference (IPC), Mid Planning Conference (MPC), Final Planning Conference (FPC), and Ridge Runner (RR) exercises.
  • Assist Ridge Runner staff with coordination between exercise participants, both foreign and domestic, as well as other government agencies.
  • Performs RR exercise lane support, set up, and coordination with local business owners, city officials, and landowners for access to infrastructure and placement for exercise cooperation.
  • Performs RR exercise support and coordination with federal, state, and local law enforcement, state emergency management, and emergency medical services.
  • Provides notification that an exercise event will be conducted within their jurisdiction or property boundaries and provides the appropriate Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) or Letters of Understanding (LOU) to each in support of the mission and Ridge Runner Objectives.
  • Provides support for RR exercise lane safety and exercise lane manager.
  • Provide Irregular Warfare training and program awareness. The training support shall include classroom and online instruction, course delivery planning, briefings, coordination, and execution.
  • Required to conduct event scheduling; reviewing, prioritizing, and responding to emails; answering and returning phone calls, organizing documents; maintaining records; taking meeting notes and any other administrative tasks that help the management perform their job.
  • Will assist with foreign visit requests for participating nations in RR programmed events. Contractor will ensure appropriate access for participants to military installations.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Provide direct oversight to independent contractors, vendors, subject matter experts and other functional areas
Required Qualifications and Education
  • Led Cross-Functional Teams in High-Stakes Environments: Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor 12-person Special Forces teams on global deployments under dynamic and high-pressure conditions.
  • Operational Planning & Execution: Developed and executed complex operational plans in joint, interagency, and multinational settings with minimal oversight.
  • Strategic Problem Solving & Decision-Making: Proven track record of rapid, adaptive decision-making in ambiguous, fluid environments-often with limited resources and time.
  • Cross-Cultural Communication & Diplomacy: Successfully operated in diverse international environments; advised and trained foreign military and civilian personnel across multiple languages and cultures.
  • Logistics & Resource Management: Managed multi-million dollar equipment inventories, team logistics, and mission-critical supply chains across remote and austere regions.
  • Instruction & Training Development: Designed and delivered training programs in weapons, tactics, leadership, and survival for both U.S. and foreign forces.
  • Security and Risk Assessment: Assessed physical and operational security vulnerabilities, implemented mitigation strategies, and oversaw team safety in hostile environments.
Preferred Qualifications and Education
  • Graduate of the Special Forces Qualification Course
  • Served in a Special Forces Group as at least a Team Sergeant
Work Authorization / Security Clearance requirements
  • Must be able to obtain and/or maintain Secret clearance; TS/SCI clearance preferred (based on exercise requirements).
  • Requires field work in varying weather conditions and terrain.
  • Exercise dates vary; must be available for pre-exercise planning calls and on-ground execution

  • Hours: Full-time work week (Monday through Friday), occasional weekends as needed. Alternate hours may be required given mission requirements. Traveling to and from the training site may require weekend and holiday travel to meet the required course delivery schedule.
