In the role of Environmental Planner 2, we'll count on you to:

  • Collect project-related data, which may include research, interviews with government agencies and clients, land use and zoning reviews.
  • Prepare, plan, and analyze/review technical studies, permit applications, and similar reports/documents for local, Washington state, and Federal permitting efforts, including:

    • Local land use permits, including Shoreline Permits, Conditional Use Permits, Variances, Special Use Permits.
    • Local development permits, including Building Permits, Clear & Grade Permits, etc.
    • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Section 10 and 404 permitting.
    • Washington Ecology 401 WQC permitting.
    • WDFW Hydraulic Project Approvals. Assist with preparation of State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) Environmental Impact Statements and Checklists and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Environmental Impact Statements, Environmental Assessments and Categorical Exclusions.


  • Apply knowledge of relevant land use and environmental laws, permitting requirements, and regulatory framework.
  • Assist public and private clients with permit coordination, acquisition and compliance.
  • Assist in preparation for and participation in public information meetings and hearings.
  • Provide guidance to Environmental Planner I staff on task execution.
  • Perform other duties as needed


Preferred Qualifications

  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification desired.
  • Advanced degree is preferred
  • Local candidates preferred.
  • Prior experience permitting within Washington State and regional jurisdictions.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or closely related field
  • A minimum of 5 years environmental experience
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, problem-solving and research abilities
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
