Job Summary

The Operating Room Preference Card Analyst works to ensure the accurate and timely maintenance of physician surgical needs for a variety of procedures. Through the creation and management of surgical preference cards, they maintain operating room efficiency, track procedure costs, and reduce product waste. This position requires thorough organizational expertise to develop systems used to eliminate or archive duplicate and obsolete preference cards, while also maintaining up-to-date cards in conjunction with medical, inventory, and information technology systems.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible to build and/or import preference card data into the Epic system for surgical departments of Monument Health. Understand the use of EPIC Preference Card Application and tools.
  • In conjunction with the Service Line Leads and/or Manager defines a process for submitting update requests. Establishes and updates preference cards with pick lists, item locations, patient position, and surgeon preferences.
  • Reviews and updates changes to preference cards in a timely manner reflecting the most current procedural information in order for clinicians to document accurate information that allows the surgical procedure to be ordered, billed, and filed to the patient's history.
  • The Preference Card Analyst communicates closely with the Service Line Leads and OR Staff to maintain an accurate bank of preference cards. Responsible for effective communication with other departments such as MM, CSS, and inventory coordinators in order to understand workflow and processes.
  • Upon receiving notifications of contract conversions, is responsible for implementation of new product introduction into the EPIC system.
  • Responsible to facilitate scheduled quarterly clinician (Service Line Leads) review of preference cards to verify their clinical accuracy. In conjunction with OR management and IT establishes a clear periodic review and update process.
  • Execute case pick lists, surgeon pick lists, and preference card pick lists reports from EPIC. Acts as a resource for preference card maintenance and data integrity.
  • The Preference Card Analyst is a member of the Inventory Value Analysis team and is responsible for attending VAC meetings monthly. Responsible to communicate information to and coordinate with Service Line Leads/ Management items used, items needed and standardization of preference cards for surgical procedures or surgeon preference. Collects the performance improvement data, analyzes the data, and reports to VAC monthly.
  • Has direct input into developing performance improvement audit ideas, and monitors and reports high risk or problem areas.Maintains a performance improvement and continuous quality improvement concept in the surgical department related to preference card management, inventory control, and the charge process. Develops performance improvement projects/audit ideas focusing on cost savings with approval by the Surgical Services Director.
  • All otherduties as assigned.

Additional Requirements

Required

Education - High School Diploma/GED Equivalent in General Studies

Preferred

Education - Associate in a Healthcare related field or Surgical Technician Certificate from an accredited program

Physical Requirements:
Sedentary work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
