Scheduled Hours:

Responsible for monitoring all aspects of patient care within the echo department. Plans, organizes, coordinates, conducts, and evaluates work performance in terms of patient care, staff relations, customer service, and efficiency. Provides leadership and oversight to ensure quality services and optimal workflow in the echo department.

I. Major Responsibilities:

Department Workflow Management
1. Assigns workload and ensures quality service delivery.
2. Determines staffing needs and maintains exam supplies.
3. Establishes work methods and performance standards.

Staff Development and Performance Improvement
1. Orients new staff and provides 90-day competency feedback.
2. Offers performance feedback and assists with evaluations.
3. Guides echocardiogram performance and maintains protocol manuals.
4. Provides training on performance improvement and patient safety.
5. Supports staff personal growth and learning opportunities.

Customer Service
1. Treats all individuals with courtesy, respect, and integrity.
2. Responds to patient and staff concerns and follows up.
3. Communicates delays and offers rescheduling options when needed.

Patient Care Oversight
1. Ensures compliance with exam orders and protocols.
2. Monitors patient preparation and identification.
3. Promotes a confident, professional atmosphere.

Clinical Echocardiography
1. Performs M-mode, 2D, and color-flow Doppler exams per ARDMS standards.
2. Uses optimal patient positioning and equipment settings.
3. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology.

Cardiologist Support
1. Provides clinical history and preliminary interpretations.
2. Assigns exams to appropriate cardiologists.

Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE) Assistance
1. Prepares patient, room, and equipment.
2. Assists during procedures and performs post-procedure tasks.

Equipment Maintenance
1. Cleans and disinfects exam tables, probes, and ECG cables.
2. Maintains TEE probe disinfection and machine filters.

Department Readiness
1. Maintains records, supplies, and billing accuracy.
2. Coordinates echo with other cardiovascular testing.

II. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education

Required:
1. 1-2 years of formal training
2. RDCS certification
3. Current CPR certification
Preferred:
1. Associate's degree

Experience/Skills
Required:
1. 5 years of dedicated cardiac experience

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
