Requirements

Georgetown University's Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, part of Georgetown University Medical Center, seeks to prevent, treat and cure cancers by linking scientific discovery, expert and compassionate patient care, quality education and partnership with the community - guided by the principle of cura personalis, "care for the whole person." Georgetown Lombardi is the research engine driving clinical cancer research at MedStar Health in the D.C. Metro area and Hackensack Meridian Health in northern New Jersey.

The Project Assistant supports NCI grants focused on cancer genetic testing in individuals and families and provides support for projects funded through the Fisher Center. Specific roles include recruiting genetic testing, genetic counseling and breast cancer patients, and interacting with clinic staff. The incumbent oversees data collection via in-person and telephone interview, as well as data entry and data tracking. Maintaining files, conducting quality assurance, and supervising undergraduate research assistants, additional duties include but are not limited to:
  • Train in RedCap in order to perform database programming and management, playing a central role in data collection by collecting behavioral and epidemiological data.
  • Conduct initial and follow up telephone interviews, confirming subject eligibility.
  • Ensure completion of surveys in accordance with projected number of surveys completed/week, as well as timely completion of follow-up surveys in accordance with established time frames.
  • Review patient charts for pathology information, owning in-person and telephone study recruitment.
  • Approach and recruit genetic counseling and breast cancer patients by telephone or in person, reviewing patient records for eligibility.
  • Consult with clinical staff regarding patient eligibility, having extreme sensitivity to patient and clinic needs.
  • Perform database programming, data entry and data tracking, entering survey results and registering new patients into the databases.
  • Perform quality checks on existing data, tracking patients and maintaining contact logs and hard copy files of study materials.
  • Conduct literature reviews, participate in manuscript preparation and help organize and coordinate study-related meetings.


Work Interactions

The person will interact frequently with patients in-person and over the telephone. Interactions with clinical physicians and staff. The position also requires interactions with multiple faculty PIs involved in a linked set of cancer genetic studies. In addition, this position frequently interacts with other project staff at Georgetown and collaborating sites. The Project Assistant will directly report to Dr. Schwartz's project coordinator and will also interact frequently with Dr. Schwartz.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in a behavioral science or public health related discipline
  • At least one year of public health or social science research experience that includes interaction with human subjects and data management
  • Experience with database software (REDCap, MS Access) and statistical software (SPSS, SAS, R) preferred

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$18.28 - $27.33

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
