Description
The Health Information Technician manages and responds to a variety of information requests from multiple sources, communicating via incoming and outgoing phone calls and through clinic contacts. The position includes managing documents and tasks within the Electronic Medical Records system. This is a full-time position working M-F from 8:30 am - 5:00 pm out of our Minneapolis location. This position will be remote once initial training is complete. Colon & Rectal Surgery Associates is an operating division of Infinite Health Collaborative (i-Health), a group of local medical practices, owned and led by its physicians, on a mission to give patients more control over their healthcare.
Essential Functions:
- Manage incoming fax batches and index/file document to patient's chart, task to physicians and coders as appropriate
- Process release of information requests from patients, attorney offices, and insurance requests according to state & federal regulations
- Follow up and pull missing items (e.g. operative report from EPIC) on unkeyed report so coding can be done
- Follow up on missing dictation when an outside physician is looking for information (g. MOPHA requests)
- Enter patients into APM when a report is received from an outside facility and there is no record of having seen them
- Answer incoming phone calls to the Health Information queue
- Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience Requirements:
- 2 years' experience working with electronic medical records in a related field
- Strong knowledge of HIPAA and release of information guidelines.
- High School diploma/GED or equivalent
- Associates or Bachelor's degree in related field, preferred.
- Medical terminology knowledge, preferred.
- Special Skills: Strong interpersonal skills necessary. Strong writing skills and word processing skills necessary.
