Job Summary
The College of Veterinary Medicine seeks candidates for a Veterinary Technician position to work directly with the ER clinicians and rotating intern doctors to help facilitate quality client care and patient flow through the IMC, ICU, and ER.

It will be a monthly rotating day shift.
Mon - Thurs 7am - 5pm and Fri - Sun 7am - 8pm.

Essential Functions

  • Assists with administering treatments and monitoring patients admitted in IMC or ICU, observes and records vital data, abnormal signs, body weight, food/water intake of animals, and collects and labels specimens and perform treatments and administer medications as prescribed by primary veterinarian.
  • Performs and demonstrates veterinary care techniques and procedures related to emergency and critical care medicine.
  • Assists veterinarians in the care of patients requiring advanced procedures and life-saving techniques including CPR, mechanical ventilation and dialysis. Inspects facilities, equipment, and supplies daily, as well as observes health status of animals , environmental conditions , temperature , and sanitation.
  • Perform job duties with speed and accuracy and work as essential personnel, providing care for patients after hours, on weekends and holidays.
  • Assists with emergency triage and stabilization of patients presenting through the Emergency service.
  • May be responsible for, or assist in, billing clients, inputting charges, and/or similar tasks.
  • This position will work to provide care for patients after hours, on weekends, and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications
Depending upon a combination of education and experience, the finalist selected for this position will be hired as a Veterinary Technician - Inpatient and assigned levels I, II, or III.

Level I: Requires an Associate's degree in Animal Science or related scientific field.

Level II: Requires an Associate's degree in Animal Science or related scientific field plus 2 years of experience working in a veterinary hospital environment.

Level III: Requires an Associate's degree in Animal Science or related scientific field plus 4 years of experience working in a veterinary hospital environment.

Bachelor's degrees and above may substitute for years of experience.

Active license with the Alabama State Board of Veterinary Medicine as a Veterinary Technician, OR
