The department of Athletics at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for an Associate Director of Athletic Training for Women's Basketball.

About the Opportunity

This position provides athletic training services and/or supervision of Women's Basketball and other sports as assigned.

What You'll Do

Clinical Communication and Clinical Referral



  • Communication of patient illness and injury complaints/problems with Team Physicians
  • Creation and maintenance of a complete medical record
  • Provide patient educational programming
  • Physician and other sub-specialists' referral
  • Management of physician clinic including collection of injury/illness history and pre-exam testing data.
  • Coordination of clinical diagnostic testing including but not limited to X-ray, MRI, MRI-arthrogram, CT scan, echocardiogram and laboratory tests.
  • Referral and ongoing communication with sports dietitian for patient care
  • Referral and ongoing communication with sport psychologist for patient care
  • Communication of pertinent injury/illness information, as it relates to participation status, with coaching staff and sport performance staff.
  • Provide information and file claims with the insurance clerk.
  • Communication with sports performance staff and knowledge of strength and conditioning programs including coordination of group and individualized injury prevention programming.
  • Perform medical testing including but not limited to vital signs, EKG, neurocognitive and motor control evaluations
  • Perform sport science testing as directed (including but not limited to movement pattern analysis, Y-balance, and body composition)


Clinical Management and Emergency Care



  • With Team Physicians, make participation status decisions and execute the unchallengeable authority to remove a patient from participation and/or return to participation
  • Practice and event (home and away) athletic training acute injury and emergency medical management; may include travel with at least one sport; will include regular service on weekends as well as before/after traditional hours
  • Management and execution of all university athletic facility emergency action plans including communication, EMS activation, AED/CPR delivery and post-event reporting to Head Team Physician, University Risk Management, and Athletic Administration
  • Evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries including up to date knowledge and utilization of the latest evidence-based techniques and modalities
  • Possess and maintain a minimum of one clinical specialization (eg Graston, Functional Movement Screening, vestibular rehabilitation, myofascial decompression therapy, Active Release Therapy)
  • Knowledge and on-going execution of policies including but not limited to lightning, heat stress, cold weather, pre-participation physicals, alcohol and other drug, nutritional supplements, learning disabilities, prescription medications, over the counter medications, concussion, MRSA, asthma, sickle cell, disordered eating and meet expectations under the AAAHC (or like organization) accreditation
  • Creation or co-creation of rehabilitation programming including periodic goals and outcome


Clinical Education



  • Provide formal and informal wellness education to patients, coaches, support staff, administrators and parents
  • Clinical supervision of athletic training students in clinical rotations and/or athletic training aides as assigned.
  • Supervision of graduate assistant athletic trainer(s) as assigned.
  • Annual creation and execution of a continuing education plan


Administrative

Completion of administrative responsibilities that may include assisting with:



  • Annual program strategic planning
  • Annual program goal creation and execution
  • Annual analysis of program staffing model
  • Periodic analysis of injury rates and trends including strategic planning with coaches, sport performance coaches, physicians and sub-specialists for future programming adjustments.
  • Participate in scholarly activities through own creativity or as assigned
  • Participation in State and/or National Athletic Training committees and or/conferences
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletics Director/Head Athletic Trainer, Olympic Sports.
  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with all rules, regulations, policies and guidelines of West Virginia University, the Big 12 Conference and the NCAA; must adhere to NCAA Bylaw 11.1 Conduct of Athletic Personnel. Failure to adhere to these policies will result in appropriate disciplinary action including possible suspension and termination.
  • Exhibit a level of expertise in professional field; must comply with the NATA Code of Ethics.
  • Represent the University on the highest professional level with dignity, integrity, and strength of character and will exhibit ethical behavior; must respect the rights and dignity of individuals with sensitivity to problems that may arise from racial, ethnical and sexual orientation differences.
  • Manage sensitive and confidential information related to student-athletes, coaches and staff utilizing discretion and correct decisions. Failure to use proper discretion at required level could result in major and significant embarrassment to the University and/or have a significant impact on image, revenues and eligibility of student-athletes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Athletic Training and licensure with 3 years of experience or Masters and 1 year experience
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities



  • Maintain high standard of ethics and integrity related to intercollegiate athletics
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA or professional soccer and/or tennis.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA and conference policies, rules, regulations and guidelines and ability to apply and enforce those rules
  • Maintain knowledge of state and University policies and procedures
  • Maintain Board of Certification credentials, First Aid, AED and CPR credentials


Preferred Qualifications:



  • CAATE accredited athletic training curriculum preferred
  • Experience w/ load management, injury rates data analysis, external and internal load tracking (GPS, force plates, RPE, etc.)
  • Experience with inventory, budgeting, policy review, and hiring committees
  • Clinical supervision of athletic training students
  • Experience with operating spa's and/or CPO certification (or eligible)

Requirements

Licenses/Certifications



  • Board of Certification credentials(Athletic Trainer Certification)
  • First aid, AED and CPR certification
  • Current or Eligible for WV Athletic Trainer's License.
  • One clinical specialization (eg Graston, Functional Movement Screening, vestibular rehabilitation, myofascial decompression therapy, Active Release Therapy, Dry Needling)
