This is life-changing work, and we are all in, are you? Akebia Therapeutics ("Akebia") is seeking a Vice President Marketing for its Renal portfolio, reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer. This position is responsible for the overall development of Marketing strategy and execution. This includes supporting the short- and long-term planning processes and maximizing revenue and profit for the company's product portfolio.
- Develops renal portfolio and brand strategies, including Vafseo, Akebia's lead product launched in January of 2025 and supporting Auryxia.
- Leads Marketing in the execution of overall strategy for the Renal portfolio, including Vafseo, Auryxia, and future product pipeline.
- Develops and oversees execution of tactical plans to maximize market share.
- Collaborates with Market Access to establish strategically aligned pricing, reimbursement, and distribution.
- Ensures Sales teams have messaging and tools to promote portfolio across multiple stakeholder groups.
- Establishes goals, key metrics, and measurement to evaluate performance across Renal portfolio.
- Collaborates with Research, Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, Legal, Compliance, and Commercial colleagues to ensure alignment and to optimize strategies and initiatives for the Renal portfolio.
- Gathers competitive insights and assesses impact on Akebia's competitive position.
- Develops forecasts for Renal franchise within the long-range plan, identifies key levers in the forecast, and creates strategies and tactics to drive success.
- Develops relationships with medical experts and industry organizations to advance education, obtain advice and inform internal strategies, and support patients.
- Part of cross-functional team that will work to prioritize data gaps and potential paths forward with FDA.
- Partners with Legal, Compliance and Regulatory to drive business in a compliant way.
Basic Qualifications
- BA or BS required (MBA degree preferred)
- 12-15+ years of experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry
- Minimum 10+ years' cross-functional experience including combination of Marketing, Sales, Market Access, or Analytics & Operations Product launch experience

- Strong leadership skills and ability to effectively collaborate across multiple functional areas
- Must be a clear communicator with the ability to articulate commercial strategies and drive executable plans
- Able to execute flawlessly and efficiently
- Results-oriented with strong analytical skills
- Strong understanding and commitment to the legal and regulatory environment for promoting pharmaceutical products in the US
- Displays solid ethics and demonstrated integrity on the job
Compensation:
Targeted Base: 288,709 - 356,641*
*Base Compensation for this role will depend on a number of factors including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience, and may fall outside of the range shown. Base pay is only one component of the company's total rewards package, all regular employees are also eligible for the corporate bonus program or the incentive compensation program (if applicable), as well as equity. Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, etc.
