THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections (DOC) is eager to welcome a dedicated and conscientious Nurse Aide for State Correctional Institution (SCI) Phoenix. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Nurse Aide, you will provide care to inmates at SCI Phoenix under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. Your duties will include completing basic nursing skills and nursing procedures to maintain optimum inmate health, as well as providing quality care and completing documentation as required. In this position, you will collect specimens, as directed by the Registered Nurse, for urine, feces, and sputum. You can expect to assist inmates with daily living activities and hygiene to ensure basic physical care needs are met. You will also participate in life skills programming by following nursing care plan orders, providing care and interventions consistent with inmates' needs, and documenting on assigned aspects of nursing care plans. Additionally, you will participate in emergency situations by performing emergency procedures including CPR and participating in emergency response drills as assigned.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hour work week
  • Work hours are flexible - 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry; or
  • Six months of paid experience in the care and treatment of geriatric or physically ill patients or residents.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
